Hey everyone. Check this one out. I’m assuming it’s a before strike lamination issue. Looks like it was partially peeling when struck (jacket). However, it appears the “1” has relocated, or that could just be a fold? Weight - 3.2g. Looks really cool. Pictures don’t do it justice, has a deep blue almost black color. I’ve read a bunch of posts and articles on lamination issues but it seems to be one of the topics the experts are best at.
I definitely see lamination issues going on. I’ve never seen one this extensive and can’t help but wonder if there’s PMD on this as well. I’d be curious to hear @Fred Weinberg ’s opinion.
Funny - I was at a show this past weekend and brought this with me. Skip from ICG mentioned I should bring it to a “Fred” that would be grading at the bigger show in July (Orlando).
Yes do that. But when asking for a mint error to be looked at it is called attributing. Ask Fred, no quotation marks, for an attribution
Pretty cool how you have it propped up like that. I’ve been afraid this one is just going to fall apart on me! Appreciate the info. Definitely open to hearing from anyone before July too
Very nice coin. Great photos too. I really like it due to it having both Retained & Unretained Laminations. It seems to be in an uncirculated condition.
I’ve never seen one so wide spread, non linear, and differentiated between retained and detached. It’s really cool.
1. I'm not needed to add that it's a nicer than average lamination. 2. I do the January FUN show in Orlando, but I do not do the summer July show, so please don't expect me there for the summer event. I'll be at the ANA in Chicago in August, of course
I love errors like this because it's a one of a kind. There is a lot going on with these coins. It takes a columbo type of investigation to explain the story of this coin. The big question is what shape was it in before the strike.
