masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

The intent was for humor, sarcasm as you said.

    Peace...

This is what I would buy with $100, but, it's your decision- if you were thinking of a certain coin for some time, then you should definitely go with that.
I hope that you find something very interesting for your $100.

I also like Eduard's idea of a Frankfurt Kreuzer. Here's another interesting coin:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/1861-Frank...m287ae6dc56:g:vS8AAOSwFfJcYOUD&frcectupt=true

Ends in 4 hours, so you might be able to get it for less than $100.

I edited and toned down my post before you responded, but in fairness, it’s hard to see humor in text, especially when I don’t know you... you’re not the first to suggest I cross the line.

Cool Russian coin. I prefer to stick to coins intended for circulation (even if they’re UNC). I do like the 2 Thaler. Too bad it looks like it was previously jewelry.

Buy your wife some flowers and a nice dinner out with the money and maybe she'll take you off coin probation. :D

Pliny’s description of Marcus Sergius, who is depicted on the reverse of this coin:

Nobody - at least in my opinion - can rightly rank any man above Marcus Sergius, although his great-grandson Catiline shames his name. In his second campaign Sergius lost his right hand. In two campaigns he was wounded twenty-three times, with the result that he had no use in either hand or either foot: only his spirit remained intact. Although disabled, Sergius served in many subsequent campaigns. He was twice captured by Hannibal - no ordinary foe- from whom twice he escaped, although kept in chains and shackles every day for twenty months. He fought four times with only his left hand, while two horses he was riding were stabbed beneath him.

He had a right hand made of iron for him and, going into battle with this bound to his arm, raised the siege of Cremona, saved Placentia and captured twelve enemy camps in Gaul - all of which exploits were confirmed by the speech he made as praetor when his colleagues tried to debar him as infirm from the sacrifices. What piles of wreaths he would have amassed in the face of a different enemy!

Cool coin and history. I think, though, that you missed the point of this thread, which was to suggest things that are for sale on eBay that I buy, not show off your own cool purchases. ;)

My point was to show you a cool coin within your price range so you become aware of the type.

In the time it took you to write that reply, I found these:

You’ve egregiously underestimated my typing speed, but your point was made. Here’s my point, however: I don’t know these coins and would have no idea what is real or fake, or what a good deal is. Thank you for providing links you consider reputable. I shall take a look at them; it has a cool history. :)

I owe a response here to first thank everyone who responded. I did the boring, responsible thing and instead of buying coins, bought 2x2s, boxes and staples to allow me to better store a large collection I've been organizing. I've got another $90 or so available on eBay and am revisiting the recommendations here.

Nothing wrong with that. Taking care of the coins you own is the first order of the day and money wisely spent. Just placed a $50-ish order for AirTites and other storage supplies myself yesterday.

Boring, probably but responsible definitely yes. We must protect what coins we have first.
