    John Skelton Morgan man!

I had to buy this 1878 7TF Morgan because I couldn't, for the moment, afford the 8TF. Yet. Anyway, when I got home and looked at it closer, I noticed it also had the reverse of the 1879 with the slanted arrow feather. Can you see anything else interesting about it?

    So what do you think?

Good old honest wear. Pretty dollar that performed it's job well.

Love the opening words "I had to buy..." Looks like a small die chip under the R in DOLLAR. She's a beauty and she's worked very hard to support the economy. Nice pick up.

The writing on the top obverse bothers me... Otherwise, nothing else that I see.

On the reverse, left side, top arrow in the eagles claw. It's slanted.

Yep, I picked up on that and checked my book on Morgans by Bowers. And of course I mentioned that in my OP. Did you also know because of that it's also the reverse of the 1879 coin? Check it out please.

Thanks. I hadn't noticed the die chip before. I had my eye on one in my LCS, which had some luster, but didn't have the money to buy it at the time. I like the wear on this coin and it was the same price the dealer had. I'm still going back to check it out to see if it has the feathers parallel and buy it if it does.

Yes I know that is the '79 reverse on the '78. It's actually called the 3rd reverse. If you have a Red book Please take the time to read it before you go see your dealer. It explains the differences on the 1878 Morgan's very well.

I'll do that. But the Bowers book on Morgans doesn't do a bad job, either. It gives very good information in a format I like. I've put in a plug for the sixth edition for my birthday next week!

I doubt the ink got on the coin. I will break it out and put it in an airtite. If the ink is on the coin, I'll repost it.

I went to a local auction with 29 Morgans. I can now say I bid on an 1883 S PCGS graded MS 65 Morgan that sold for over $23,000. It last sold for $30,000 two years ago so the buyer did pretty well. and I bid on a 1882 CC DMPL PCGS graded but came up short because of my inexperience. Lot's of fun.
