man that is super cool !!! I know some old ship wreck coin where called pieces of 8 what exactly is this one called?
I wanted to ask him about the size. The label states that the coin is a Real. And that would make it silver dollar sized and would also be known as a piece of eight. One fourth of a piece of eight is also known as two bits. These days commonly called a quarter..... The Real was the foundation of our nations coin system.
I believe you got this wrong. It doesn’t have the size or weight of a silver dollar. A 2 reales coin is about the size of a US quarter. An 8 reales coin was called “piece of eight” and was the equivalent to a silver dollar. See http://piratesoflore.com/pieces-of-eight.html
1 doubloon (Doblón) = 2 pieces of eight 8 Reales (Royals) = 1 piece of eight 1 Real (Royal) = 0.125 piece of eight Escudos and Doubloons were made of gold, Reales were made of 90% silver.
Amazon is asking an absurd amount of money IMO. Apmex is out of stock. Here is one for $89. https://www.blackmountaincoins.com/...3-folder-and-certificate-of-authenticity.html Don't know anything about this company though.
