Chance this is an impaired proof 1875 twenty cent piece?

I found this coin very interesting, so I bought it. It's in an ANACS AU53 holder, straight graded. But honestly it looks like a proof in the seller's pics. I paid $575, so not a risky buy even if it isn't a proof. Just wondering if anyone knew or had thought about it. There were over 2600 proofs minted for this year, so they aren't that hard to find. I personally just wanted to see if ANACS goofed again. Despite the field chatter, it doesn't appear any worse than AU55 to my eye, and perhaps a 58 (okay, maybe not a 58). The strike is so deep and Liberty's hair so well defined... I just thought "proof."

Very, very nice strike. I'm interested to hear if it's a proof, fingers crossed for you.

Sure looks like one doesn’t it... the detail on the talons/feet is crazy. Sweet coin either way

First, even though the Proof mintage was 2,600, the 1875 double dime is not that common in Proof. From what i’ve read, a lot of them went unsold and were melted.

Second, this date can come Proof-like. I had an AU that was semi P-L when I was in high school.

I will post pictures of a Proof coin later.

Wow, all that sure through me fir a loop.

Very nice looking but I'n not convinced it's a proof. Once again that proves in hand is much better than a picture.

With your history of finding cool stuff, it's probably a proof.;)

Looking at the first picture, it appears to be a proof or at least a proof-like coin. No matter what it is, the strike is excellent. Most AU 20c pieces have such a weak strike I can’t tell if I am looking at the obv or rev of the coin.

Here is an 1875 Proof Twenty Cent Piece. The grade is PCGS PR-64, Cameo.

I think it's a business strike. Ah well.

I would say that it is a business strike. The surfaces in those photos are similar to ones that were in the AU I had years ago, but it's not the same coin.

great looking coin, but I think it's not a proof, a bit of weakness on Eagle's breast and neck, but the obv. looks very well struck. Congrats on picking up a scarce issue.

While it may not be a 58, I think that is the grade it will get.
Old silver getting a little slack, and the super strong strike rarely seen in this series.
    Great details.

Do you think you can pull a Larry? :DSubmit it as a proof on the form and see what happens....

It does look like a nice coin even if it’s not a proof. :)

Proof or business strike, very nice coin! Most collectors would be proud to add to their collection!
