Hi all, On January 23, 2019 NGC entered into their system 6 Mint Error coins I submitted for attribution.. Yesterday was 53 Business days since that entry... I'm frustrated and anxious I did e-mail them this past Monday about the status of my submission.. They stated they would look into my submission.. I guess I have to wait another 53 Business days! What are your thoughts on why it takes so long!? (I will update if they finally finished what they are supposed to do!)
I think because their reputation has vastly improved in the last couple years, combined with an explosive interest in error coins, I think they're just overwhelmed. Just like in sports with instant replay, as long as they have good people looking at it and they get it right I can wait the extra month or two
My last submission of 2 coins took about 2 months. Granted I used NCS for one of them which held it up. I paid for 5 day grading service and after it was done at NCS the grading still took a month. I had to call them. They told me it was in the grading room. 2 weeks later they were graded and shipped out. FWIW I know someone who's submitting a $20 St Gaudens to NCS for spot removal. They paid $50 on top of the NCS and grading fee to try to get 5 day service on it. We'll know soon if it's possible. lol
I'm sure it will be done soon! If you don't hear back, contact the person from NGC instagram ngccoins . He is really helpful and fast.
Oh boy, this is unfortunate. I just sent in a submission that has 2 error coins in it. I hope that isn't the part that holds the whole order up.
I forgot to also mention.. Sometime in early March they sent me an invoice because the person who helped me with the submission made a mistake on the form and I owed a certain amount of money.. I paid it thinking that would speed up my submission but it hasn't.
They may of held up certifying and grading your coins until they received payment. Still, it's way too long. I'm sure you'll get them soon but a polite call is in order.
IME calling them, the people you talk to have bare minimum information. They can tell you where it's at and will give you an estimate of time which seems to be a guess more than anything. They can tell you if the schedule is backed up. That's about it.
I guess one way of looking at it is it's a good sign for the hobby that they have that much business.
I already did the search.. I kind of want to keep the info for myself at the moment.. New threads coming soon!
