As most of you probably know, there are going to be some changes in 2010. The Quarter will change and be done with the State and Territorial series, and the cent will have had its Lincoln Bicentennial. So we will see a new quarter and cent. It got me thinking though...Its a new decade. Lets make it big! Each year can have its own theme, with all demoninations participating. For example, 2010 could be dedicated to the space program, and each demonination could have a different design on the reverse commemorating our achievements in space. Other ideas could be endangered species, civil leaders, famous inventors, Nobel prize winners, or Americana (such as the flag, an eagle in flight, the Capitol building, and things of this nature). I just think it would be something special the mint could do to spice things up. I dont think it would be too much, because there would only be 1 of each coin made (excepting the Pres. Dollar series). It could definitely be used to teach children and inspire new collectors as well. I will probably catch flack for this though, as many of you are disgusted with the mint for putting out what they already have with the quarters, nickles, dollars, and next year, pennies. This was just an idea I had come up with to change things up.
I don't care about what they put out, if ya don't like it, don't buy it. But when they put out something I like, it does put a bit of a hurt on my wallet. I think we might see something done with the dime, not sure though. That's my opinion. Either that or the half dollar. What's left? Phoenix
1) Its not for the mint to decide. Congress does that. 2) My crystal ball is in the shop for repairs but I found a shard on the floor and so I will predict the composition of the cent will change again. Probably the nickel as well. 3) "endangered species, civil leaders, famous inventors, Nobel prize winners, or Americana . . ." Can you really see Congress assembled - both parties, mind you - agreeing to, or on, much of that?
The only one I would see them having any quarels over would e te Nobel prize winners simply for the fact that Al Gore would probably be one of pics.
Let us hope that 2010 is a Calm year coin wise.... New Quarter design that will last 25 or so years... New Cent Reverse that will last 50 or so years.... Continue the President Dollars and Sac Dollars..... Couple of Comems.... let people catch thier breaths after 2009
Half Quarter How about a new half quarter? We have the half cent coin, the 2 cent coin, the 3 cent coin, the half dime, and the 20 cent coin, why not the half quarter? JUST KIDDING!!! I don't want to open that can!
Maybe a penny made out of a new material? Or do away with the cent and $1 bill to force the $1 coin. People say that they dont want a pocket full of change, but with the penny gone and no $1, you wouldnt have any more coins than normal...just maybe a little bit bigger ones
I don't think it's a bad idea to change the designs, so long as there's just one design per year on each coin. The old static busts on coins are tiresome to say the least. New designs wouldn't even have to be anything so groundbreaking either. Throw a bird or two on them, or a nice botanical scene...or anything that might be more appealing than what we've been seeing for the past three generations. Guy~
I think the era of presidents on coins (or specific people for that matter) should end. Bring a representation of liberty on our circulating coins in 2010. Change all the design on all the coins, except the presidential dollars of course.
It would be nice to return to liberty being on our coins. 2010 would be a great opportunity to end the president's reign on our coins and let them go out with a bang on the dollar coins. We could put different designs of freedom and liberty onto the coins, I.E. the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, the Declaration of Independence and Constitution (not the whole things...just like a scroll..you know. I would also like to see the V on the nickel again.
how about Oprah on a new half dollar??? hehe, but it has been a long series for JFK and change won't hurt anybody
Let's discuss our true deepest feelings, why does that make you feel that way? How does that make you really feel? Phoenix
It would be nice if they just had 12 coins. Cancelling the dollar bill and those stupid "indian pride" reverses on sac (and ending the presidents series premeturly) is what should be done.
