Hello everyone, I seemed to have come across a 1944 steel penny. From what I have read if it sticks to a magnet there is a chance of it being real. Any other ways to verify that it is real or fake?

Weigh it. It is unlikely that it is genuine.
Copper 3.1 grams, steel 2.8 grams.

Plating can make a coin magnetic , so weight to 2 decimals 0.00 would be helpful. Also if you are using one of the small rare earth magnets, it can attract plating. Jim

Nay sayers say I. It IS possible that it just might be real. They do exist.

While the possibility exists, the odds of finding one after 75 years of circulation can be guaranteed to be nil.

Yes it is possible. I think there are around 35-40 of them.
However, there are a million fakes for every real one. The odds say it is plated, or someone rolled mercury over it.

Take some very good photos of the Front (Obverse) of the coin and the Reverse (Back) of the coin. Not blurry and crop out anything but the coin. When you get some good photos on your phone, hit the upload photo button down below and follow from there. It also helps to choose to enter them as a full picture.

Hey Jim I actually took it to a coin dealer and it stuck to his magnet he stated it was the best magnet out there but I did not ask him to weigh it for me which I should have done

What else did the dealer have to say?
