Hello coin folk....so I have this beautiful, awesome, super sweet, colors all over 1957 Mint set with 2 1957D, D/D/D Rpm Washington quarters. Now Wexler shows a listing for it, but Coneca Variety Vista does not. Why is this? If the Rpm error/variety exists, ( and I have 2 clear as day to prove it) how can 1 list it but the other not? Ive noticed this on other pieces also. If the idea and the "mission" is to catalog all the varieties then whats going on? Also, does anyone have any info on the rarity of these? Am finding very little online. Thank you for any assistance on this.
Let's see if I can answer this by asking you a simple question. If NGC lists a particular variety in their Census, but PCGS does not, does it mean that PCGS does not recognize it or does it mean that none have been submitted to PCGS? Chris
I believe Mr. Wexler addresses this on his website (or at least did at one time). The only D/D/D listed by Wexler has a cross reference with CONECA RPM #1 even though the latter lists it as simply a D/D and Wexler’s single photo probably isn’t the best for comparative purposes. However, if you pay attention to the markers they certainly seem to match. In cases where there isn’t a cross reference, generally speaking it’s really quite simple: if one hasn’t had the opportunity to attribute a certain variety, how can be expected to have it listed? As for value, it’s highly likely there will be anything more than a very modest premium at best based upon the variety. http://varietyvista.com/09b WQ Vol 2/RPM Detail Pages/1957DRPM001.htm
Rick you have my sympathy. Without a photo I sometimes assume cent varieties also. I am also having a relatively bad week ...maybe a bullion curse on me. Jim
Pictures ...or it didnt happen! Edit: I know I would certainly like to have my name accredited on Variety Vista page for having "THE" example
So you are proposing that all websites should be 100% synchronized with each other whether or not they are paid to do this? And, what if they don't want to list (nor care) about the minor microscopic varieties?
Today has been a good day for me! Someone posted a "Like" for me which took me back 9 years to an old thread where I had posted several photos that I had previously lost when the graphics card on my old computer fried. So, I was able to save them. Chris
Ok guys...relax now...lol...im headin home and will post some pics within a half hour or so. And yes, this is a 57d QUARTER NOT A CENT. I didnt post a pic originally cuz it was more of a philosophical cataloging question more than an ID question. Im not real concerned with value other than it is nice to know if something you have has value just to be aware of the fact. I have no desire or intention of parting out this mint set. Yea, thought id been up coining for too long last night when i first saw it. Like, whoa!!#! Too many layers!!!! Lol
