What grade is this coin? I am in no way, shape, or form a collector of half cents, nor old cents, but I am saying it is around MS62 or maybe even 63. I don’t know if the scratches or the light corrosion would give it a details grade, so I’m saying if it did, it would be unc details. When I saw this coin, the luster immediately caught my eye, and I absolutely love brown luster because it has more character than plain old red luster. This is not my coin, but I am interested in buying it, and I want some advice first. Thanks for any help!

I might go AU50 on that coin but no higher. There's simply no way that coin is MS.

Not an MS coin by any means. More like unc, details. It's nice looking but those scratches are a killer for me. Add in the corrosion and I would pass. I think if you look hard enough you'll find a better coin that suits your tastes.

+1 too many concerns. I'd avoid this coin. You'll regret it later.

I know you don’t appreciate hearing anything other than what you want to, but this is a fine example of why it is an absolute necessity to also not see only what you want to. The fact you’re trying to play the business angle makes this not just a suggestion but imperative.

One of the wisest gifts you can give yourself is being honest with yourself regarding your true abilities. Dismiss if you wish, but sooner or later you’ll be the one paying the price.

Are the scratches on the reverse on the coin or on the holder?

I have no idea what "brown luster" is supposed to be. The coin is what it is and despite the negative reactions here, I guess it might be worth owning if you want "just one" Large Cent, but in that case, I would have to agree with the common sentiment: if you just want one, you can find a better one for the money.

    But since you mention it...

I’m not playing the “business angle”. I am simply interested in this coin, and I like these types of coins.
Brown luster is just luster on a brown coin. It isn’t like colored luster. I guess I didn’t say it right.

And yet again you inadvertently prove my point all because you steadfastly refuse to see the forest through the trees. Sooner or later you’ll learn and will deserve every painful ounce of your lesson.

Condition-wise, it's a nice chocolate brown AU. But the scratches would discount it heavily. And unless it is something ultra rare in any condition, I would stay away - you will never be happy, and always making excuses for it.
