Just found this 2015P dime with a strike thru screw over Roosevelt's eye.

Look closely, pic 3 shows the head of the screw shows above the eye and then the threads, pic 4 shows the threads and point. Had to shoot at these angles to get decent pics.

Sorry Lou, but it looks like there is some displaced metal that's slightly raised. PMD and not an error

Understood. From here its' obvious. I'll be getting a new camera next week. If I can take some convincing pics I'll post them. Thank you.

FWIW: the striking pressure would leave a much deeper and pronounced indent in the coin if it was struck through a screw. Die steel is much harder than the clad planchet. Just something to think about

Sometimes (meaning almost always) it’s best to apply the principle behind Occam’s Razor when approaching such things: the most obvious explanation is usually the correct one.

It is much more likely a coin would be damaged (or perhaps a mix of damage and die breaks so common on that area) than having been struck through a screw that somehow barely touched the planchet during striking.

    Thanks all.
That makes a lot of sense. When I first looked at the coin I saw a clear image of a screw. You're right about the striking pressure. The damage would have been much greater if a screw had been there. I do however think that the die at some point could have hit a screw and left an impression which was then transferred to coins. I can see threads that spiral and a tip as well as a small head. I'm getting a new camera (5mp) next week. If I can get some good pics that show a screw I'll post them.
    Thanks: Lou

Likely the reeding from another coin hit this one, in a well placed manner

O.K., as promised I have a new camera, and an upgrade to windows 10. Still not use to it, upgraded from xp, (I know it's ancient lol) However I think the new camera makes it clear. I guess this die must have struck at sometime with a screw in the way. The impression is pretty clear. you can see the top of the screw just over Roosevelt's eye going south south east. screw.jpg screw.jpg

Looks like Damage to me. If it was struck through a screw I would love to know how that happened.

Look closely and you’ll see what appear to be breaks mentioned earlier, but doesn’t explain all. I’m still under the impression it’s a mix of or the aforementioned and damage.

Well, it seems obvious to me. I've circled the area in red and at the top I can plainly see the head of a slotted screw. Following it SSW I can see threads that come to a point. Just my opinion.

It just looks like a screw because it's on his eyebrow which is raised on the coin.
