Meow has found a very dark quarter CRH the other day. Meow was going let it loose back to the wild before looking at it very closely. Upon close inspection Meow find the toning actually to be quite pretty. It is toned in several colors, and Meow can describe it best as kind of Panzer camouflage. All it needs it a bit of Zimmerit, and it would be good to go.
Well is not all toning a form of corrosion? This quarter is not deeply pitted at all, it feels relatively smooth. It also looks as if its in AU condition. So with all that, Meow thought it was a pretty cool coin. Ever see a custom car made with a patina finish? Meow feels its kind like that. It has flecks of yellow, green, and brown. Exactly what Meow would think would look natural on a Konigstiger.
Then Meow camouflaged that quarter like they do to the Konigstigers. Or it was used as target practice for mini paint ball guns. lol
Methinks Meow is trolling by asking if that is pretty toning, though the Panzer tank camouflage comparison was worth a chuckle. Edited to add that after Googling to see what the heck "Zimmerit" was, I learned something new, as I had not heard of that despite my extensive WW2 history reading and documentary-watching.
I think our grading system should be revised for all non-silver coins dated 1965 or later. As the grade progresses downward from MS to AU to EF to F, etc. we should reduce the value from face amount. For example, a fugly quarter such as this should be worth in the neighborhood of 22c as a "collector's coin". Granted, it would still have a spendable value of 25c in everyday commerce, but that's as good as it will get. Chris
Meow.... well, I am looking forward to seeing your coin after you treat it with whatever you are going to use. Please post 'after' photos so we can see the reveal.
All toning is ugly IMHO. unless it's on tanks. I like tanks. If you shoot a coin with a tank cannon, and post it here. Would ppl identify it as a mint error or PMD (Panzer Munitions Damage)? What if you sang to a coin with a canon ?
Meow likes to think of Meowself as a little Konigstiger rather than a House Cat. Meow is already got the orange part down, the stripes not so much. As Meow is fierce!
