Currency Storage

    I'm considering boxes (about 7"W x 4"H x 10"-13"L) to store a currency collection in.
All individual pieces of currency are in plastic sleeves.

Is it necessary that the boxes be archival/acid-free?

I can match the size with ordinary boxes.
I've done some searching and haven't found any archival/acid-free boxes in that approximate size.

Right now I'm using 3-ring binders.
And maybe that's the way to go.

    Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'd leave in binders or use the JP box that Chris listed above.

I use the red currency boxes @cpm9ball referenced. The notes are in Mylar sleeves which fit nicely in these boxes.

I'm guessing that it would take two or more 3-ring binders to hold as many sleeves.

Not sure the storage boxes need be archival/acid free so long as the notes are in appropriate holders. I have metal and plastic boxes for storage.

Yeh, and that's my current problem.
They take up more space than one box would.

    Thanks for all the responses.

These aren't bad, but they look pretty much like shoe boxes.

Is there anything that has sleaves to hold a bunch of notes like Lighthouse/Wizard sells those wooden boxes that have velvet sleaves for coins ?

Even a smaller one for premium bills would be OK if I use a cheaper one for the less-expensive bills.

Right, not bad for lesser notes, but for premium ones anything with sleaves or dividers so you don't have to "squish" them together ?

I'd like to give my bills costing hundreds (and hopefully, thousands) a bit more protection than plain old Silver Certificates.

    I collect only small-size $1 notes.
    Here's what I use:

The pages are double-sided so I can store 6 notes comfortably in each page.
And the better notes are also in Mylar sleeves.

My problem with keeping them in boxes is that I don't take them out and enjoy them as much as I do my binders. Staples or other "box" office supply stores carry an almost infinite variety of binders. Granted, they do take up more space, but I get to enjoy going through them more often.

    Not bad.
I'll have to think about them.
Right now I'm reorganizing my currency set and haven't firmed up how I'd like it to end up.

I like that one for graded notes. I use the red box for sleeves.

I put mine in sleeves and where I keep them all as well as other stuff has a low heated dryer in it to keep moisture from infiltrating them where they will be stored.

I don't have any advice but I thought this post was very helpful.

I'm going to need to consider storage and display options for my soon to be growing collection.

I'm not happy just putting my notes -- especially the more valuable ones -- as one big clump in any of these storage vessels.

Isn't there a box that has SLEEVES that you can slide the bills into for support, like the PCGS and NGC coin boxes that let you slide the coins into designated slots ?

The bills are more exposed even though they're encased in the plastic protectors from PMG/PCGS/Legacy. I don't want them falling down, getting bent, etc.

I use currency sleeves with storage boxes:
