Got these back at Xmas time from my father in law... He asked the bank for $100 in $2's and had spent a few by the time we got there, what he had left was 1976 E00554956* thru E00554973* (sequential) and E00554975* all of them are very crisp no folds, no nothing, look uncirculated to me, but I'm not an expert. I have since put them in protective sleeves... He almost certainly had (and spent) E00554974*, and I wonder if he didn't have 50 sequential E *'s... They are all cut somewhat off center, I don't know how that affects the value. See the photo for examples of the best and worst case off-center cuts... --Paul
for what little they are offset, it ight hurt the overall value instead of building one. the more perfectly centered the note is, and when any part of the design is cut off.. those 2 conditions help build the value. Aside from that - AWSOME find!!! not only are the notes mostly consecutive.. but STARS too .. i am almost giddy lol
Take care of those babies! Only 640,000 printed. Yes, the off center pulls them out of Gem in my opinion but still some pretty scarce notes. You could probably get some decent money for those on ebay WITH SOME research. clembo
This guy wants $135 for just one! http://cgi.ebay.com/2-FRN-1976-Richmond-Star-640-000-CHCU_W0QQitemZ330180764200QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330180764200&_trksid=p3285.c52.m20.l1116 Not that he'll actually get that... --Paul
Now this is scary and your notes may be worth a lot more. Just so happens that "this guy" is one of the most knowledgable concerning modern U.S. currency. He participates in shows all over the U.S. and is really a nice guy. Wrote what I think is the most comprehensive book on $1 Federal Reserve notes to date. Just so happens that I'm listed as a contributor (for 295 errors what else for those that know me) and I'm also listed on his web site. Now you REALLY need to take care of those babies. clembo
Looks like his is roughly the same amount off center too... Should I consider having them graded? I don't really plan to sell them at this time... Just thinking about protection, and knowing their actual grade is nice too --Paul
HAHAHA QUOTE: $2 FRN 1976 Richmond Star CHCU. These are now as scarce as the Minneapolis Stars. The picture is for display purposes only, the note you get may have a different serial #.
