So a friend gave me this, but haven’t seen one. Just wanted to show you all to see what y’all think it is! BA5F0F10-4187-4A8C-AF95-35E7B5BF35DC.jpeg B18B3103-317C-4269-B702-50324D356A20.jpeg

Holy smokes.... I believe my grandpa used to have one of those on his dresser. Soon as I read the title of your thread that memory hit me. Even before I looked at the thread. Thanks for triggering that pleasant old memory. I hadn’t thought of that in fifty years.

I see them come into the shop now and then. It is kind of a shame they don't get passed down to kids or grandkids! But I also see those kids come into the shop immediately when they inherit coins from deceased family members who probably worked all their life building the sets. Most of the youngsters today don't have a clue about the coins or the possibilities they offer years from now.

Ahhh the memories that rush back. My grandmother, the driving force to my coin collecting had one of those good luck charms.

Thanks for sharing and reigniting those memories.

thank guys, so are they collected by a lot of people or just one of those thing you throw in a box and forget? Was it made to just pass on to another person?

They are like wooden nickels. Usually will have a marketing slogan on them. The sort of thing a salesman might leave on your desk when he makes a sales call.

A lot of companies and even some banks used these items for promotions as well as some tourist locations so many of them probably do invoke memories for those who carried them or held onto them for years and years. Basically a cheap token with a coin inside but much more to those who collected them.

Some of these do get quite pricey. I have several common ones.

I have one, it's from some Vegas buffet and it has a 70s memorial cent in it. For the life of me I don't remember where it came from. Might've even been a metal detecting find.
