I'm hoping if someone could tell me if this is an error its clearly not something that's normal its a 1983 p dime with no reeded edge I just cant believe someone can or would carve out the reeded edge for fun lol if it is an error how much is it worth and where can i sell it
Jazzmine..... You would be astounded at the things people do to coins for fun. Coins are spooned, hit with a hammer to increase the diameter. They squeeze them against other coins in vices. Yesterday there was a coin with a hole plugged by another coin. Bored people have done some interesting things with pocket change and by golly it is posted here most every day..... I will let the error experts give you their take on your dime. But never rule out a bored person mutilating pocket change for their own entertainment.
welcome to CT Jazzmine, your coin is not an error, it was exposed to an acidic environment which ate away at the softer inner copper core faster than the harder outer clad layer resulting in the affect you see on your coin..
larger coins can be smoothed by use in video games and slot machines. It's relatively easy to find half dollars with no remaining reeding left.
Wow! I found a dime with similar symptoms back in November. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/what-happened-to-this-dime.326471/#post-3227830 And got pretty much the same diagnosis from the expert.
Thanks to everyone for your feed back ill be back with more coins that ive done a bit of research on for advice thanks to all that helped now ill just toss it with the rest of my spendable change
