Jazzmine..... You would be astounded at the things people do to coins for fun. Coins are spooned, hit with a hammer to increase the diameter. They squeeze them against other coins in vices. Yesterday there was a coin with a hole plugged by another coin. Bored people have done some interesting things with pocket change and by golly it is posted here most every day..... I will let the error experts give you their take on your dime. But never rule out a bored person mutilating pocket change for their own entertainment.

welcome to CT Jazzmine, your coin is not an error, it was exposed to an acidic environment which ate away at the softer inner copper core faster than the harder outer clad layer resulting in the affect you see on your coin..

    Damaged by an acid bath.

    Welcome to CT.

Maybe just a bath of Pepsi. Copper core degrades pretty quick

larger coins can be smoothed by use in video games and slot machines. It's relatively easy to find half dollars with no remaining reeding left.

I have seen acid treated coins like that, I agree acid is the Villain here.

Wow! I found a dime with similar symptoms back in November.

And got pretty much the same diagnosis from the expert.
