Could someone help me with this error? Also some mechanical doubling around the front and the back. Thank you for any help
Show us a picture of the edge. Mechanical Doubling is not a variety. That is considered worthless doubling.
2.7 grams means it was probably minted in a rolled thin Planchet. That's a nice find. Here are 2 examples from my collection -
Yes, forget about the MD. The more interesting question is its weight. Assuming your scale is properly calibrated, the 2.7g weight puts it at .28g below the bottom tolerance (3.11g - .13g = 2.98g as the allowed weight at the low end tolerance). While the photos aren't the clearest, your coin doesn't look all that worn, at least to produce that much of a weight loss. Therefore the better question is, why does your coin only weigh 2.7g given the apparent condition of same? Semper Fidelis
Sorry my man, completely missed your follow-up or I wouldn't have posted. You gave a much better and thorough response (and yes with examples) than I did, or could have. BTW, hope you don't think that my post was directed at you; the "Yes, forget about the MD" was intended as an agreement with you and pointing the OP toward a possibly more fruitful aspect of the coin; which of course you were already in the process of defining for the Poster. Certainly did not mean to appear to be stepping on anyone's toes, and my apologies if anything in my post made it appear to the contrary. Semper Fidelis
