Hard to say due to the scratches there. Shame! Looks like they go anywhere from $50-300 on eBay. If I were selling it, I would probably list it around $125 on eBay and allow for best offer.

    Thanks!
    Sshame, isn't it?
A nice coin, otherwise, I think.
I picked this out of an dealer's assorted box for about 20 DM back then (about $14, now about double) so it seemed like a good deal.

Well, at that price, you can't lose. If you were to sell it, it would make someone a nice (more-) affordable hole filler that isn't too ugly. It's a shame about the damage, but the coin still has nice details and someone would be glad to have it, to fill that tough slot in their album.

Definitely a shame; the coin is so nice otherwise. 20DM is a great price. By the way, the dollar is pretty strong lately. That’s about $11.50 now ;)

You know, the dollar vs the DM (until 2001) and vs. the euro after that has been all over the place.
I remember when the Dollar was worth about 1,6 DM's, so you could buy a lot for a Buck, if you had it ( I didn't). Then the $ dropped really bad vs. the DM and it made life very difficult for the GI's stationed here in Germany... People even started donating to help them out. It was sad.

Later, after the euro came, we had the same roller coaster - for a while the Euro was worth about 1,6 Dollars not too long ago, and I used the opportunity to buy some nice coins in the US:).

Wow.... Makes me wish I would have cashed my last check in DM when I left Germany in the early 1980’s..... Ahh yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Looks like a 200 or $300 coin to me. In hand they always look different. Put on eBay starting at a price you are happy to get, $50 or a $100. Auction will show you what it is worth. Good luck! Jmo.

Yes, that was around the time when the dollar went a looong way in Europe. I got my first salary in 1981, and it was in Belgian Francs. I used to get depressed thinking how little that was in Dollars.

In 2006, I was doing a semester abroad in Spain. When I visited London, I only ate two meals a day because the pound was so strong that I couldn’t afford three meals...

To correlate to an EAC Large Cent net grade... possibly G4.

Yes, I know, EAC grades are thought by some to be 'brutal'.
( I am EAC myself too, btw:)).

I think $50. But the damage is permanent, someone will want to fill that key hole in their set. Be up front about the scratches and rim chunk in the photo and description. "It is what it is."
