Daniel Carr St. Gaudens, Overstrike?

I wish the seller good luck! Getting someone to pay such a huge premium on their altered St. Gaudens coin, I don't know. Maybe the rich and famous will buy it how about you? Don't misunderstand me, I've made good money off of Carr's creations! But to take such a valuable coin and have it overstruck into a year that was never even issued and expect that you are going to resell it at a higher price than you paid for it, misses the point for me. What do you think?

I like Carr's original designs, unfortunately they are out of my budget, but couldn't care less for the overstrike stuff he does. That being said, if the market dictates the price that it is selling for, then good for the seller.

 

That's my piece for sale. I don't owe you an explanation but there was a similar piece that sold on the CU Forum BST for the same price as mine a few weeks ago. It doesn't hurt to try, I can and will lower the price if it doesn't sell. I also wonder with all the other overpriced items on Ebay you pick mine as a one and only. You got a beef with me?

 

I find the discussion of an active auction in really bad taste. Only time it is warranted is if the coin is an obvious counterfeit or known stolen goods, and even then it's better to alert eBay rather than broadcast it.

 

That's the beauty of an open market place. If you don't like what's being offered or the price it's being offered at, just move on.

D. Carr coins garner premiums and Chief is testing the market. It's his to offer into the marketplace at any price he chooses.

 

Chill out! How is anyone supposed to know that it is yours unless they have had previous dealings with you? Regardless, you should already know that most "Carr Copies" are going to attract a lot of attention, both good and bad.

He has every right to be miffed at the OP for talking badly about his auction. There is money involved here, and potential conflicts of interest, so writing such a post puts the OP in jeopardy of being sued. Only thing that the OP could do more wrong is to buy the coin...proves conflict of interest and auction price manipulation, and gives the seller access to his identity information!

 

The seller may not like the negative publicity, but he has to expect it when advertising on an open forum like eBay. He could always opt to list it in a private auction, but that would defeat his goal. Wouldn't it!

You make great copy stands, but you should know that every once in a while, someone will come along who doesn't agree with everyone else. Like Judge Judy says, just because someone doesn't like your product for whatever reason, doesn't make their comments libelous.

I agree, saying something negative is not automatically grounds for being sued. But doing so to influence potential buyers to lower bids, and then either buying it yourself or having a shill buy it for you, is fraudulent activity. I'm not saying the OP is doing this, but I also can't say he's not, and it is this open question that makes it unwise to comment on active auctions.

Edited to add: I just re-checked the auction and it is BIN, so my comments about "bids" are invalid. Most likely there is little jeopardy to the OP for making the negative comments, just potential enmity with the seller.

Check my edit...since the auction is a BIN, there is less potential conflict.

Edited to add: For BIN, I guess the only potential for conflict is if the negative comments are geared to keep the coin from selling, with the result a lower BIN price being asked at a later date, and then purchasing the coin at a lower price.

 

FWIW, I have never been a fan of the "Carr Copies", but I do admire his talent.

I don't have a beef with anyone ever and I am truly sorry for offending you or your ad. That said, I didn't know it was you or I probably wouldn't have said anything at all.
