there's a coin show by me tomorrow and I was wondering when they say the show is from 9 Am to 3 PM does that mean they completely stop at 3? or does it still continue for a little afterward? I have work until 2:30 and its about 20 mins away so I was wondering if it's even worth it?
From my experience that means it ends at 1:30 and all the dealers except the 98 yr old asleep in the corner are hauling stuff to their truck by 2.
Dont feel bad Dont feel bad I live in hawaii and I have yet to even hear about a coin show out here were I am
True True and I have been known to BBQ on the beeach on Christmas and Thanksgiving and then call relatives on the mainland to rub it but with the lack of coin shows and the small amount of dealers that beleive that since this is Hawaii they can over grade then charge high book makes resourses other then online auctions far and few between. I would love for a coin show to come here to Hawaii but I know the over all cost will never make it happen
WOW. Am I glad I don't live where you people live. Around me when I go to a coin show that starts at 9:00AM I get there at about 8:30 AM and it is already crowded. There have been times when I could not get there early or heard silly rumors that if you go late the dealers are more likely to give you a real bargain. At most shows around here they too end at about 3:00PM. Of course no one looks at clocks or watches there either so no one knows. The shows end when there are no more customers. I've seen coin shows go until 4 or 5 PM if crowded. No dealer around here would ever think of leaving on time or earlier if there was even one customer roaming around. Around here we have gun shows, coin shows, knife shows, computer shows, card shows, train shows and on and on and on. At one of the gun shows that supposed to open at 8AM I get there at about 7AM and have a tuff time finding a parking place. Some ammo dealers are almost sold out by 8AM. Our show times for all shows are from when peope get there to when they leave. There are exceptions though. The stupid, really big shows at a Convention center that lasts for about 3 or 4 days is sort of like that. Can't get in until they officially open. but still stay open until all are out. No one chases anyone out of any shows here. Must be Chicago mentality. Sure glad I don't live by you people.
Yup, that's how it usually is. I might try to schedule that day off work if you can in advance, that way you can get there early and actually enjoy the show. Good luck!
hehe but I do live where you live I couldn't find you at countryside, I think you said you went later ohh and the one I am referring to is the Lemont show
I have 3 steady customers building sets in HA, they say the same thing. pretty knowledgable folks for only learning from books and the net, as they complain about lack of shows as well. One of them is new, he was a zero feedback buyer and I was soooo paranoid selling to him, lol, but he turned out to be a great guy.
I was at the Baltimore show Friday that was until 6. I took a break at 4:30 to go get a coffee. When I got back it was about 4:45 and some dealers started to cover up their tables and go home. Even though they were coming back tomorrow and there were plenty of buyers still walking the floor they still left early. I did get to see a wonderful Stella that a dealer I know purchased. NGC Pr 62 and just amazing. That was probably the highlight of my show. Didn't have the $150.000 grand to purchase it but still liked holding it for just a minute and really taking a good look at one for the first time.
Arizona ArizonaJack, Yep that is about all we have is books and the net out her in Hawaii. I sort of got interested in collecting when I was a kid and recently my dad gave me my old binder with various coins I had put into 2x2's. Now my brother is actually getting really big into collecting himself after getting to know Bill O'Rouke that writes for Coin World actually in a more recent issue Bill writes about a civil war token and ask if anyone has any information on it. I got a good laugh because I remember my brother showing me that token over christmas and yep it was his. Well my brother got my two girls hooked on the coin bug and so I have been buying bulk wheaties for them to sort and put into whitman folders and me I have gotten the bug for really nice gem Morgans. So I must thank you guys here at cointalk because this has become my new classroom. Shoot today I got a $10 star note in change and if it wasnt for cointalk I would of never noticed it. Dont worry Jack I am sure I will end up winning some of your auction on ebay to. Us Hawaii people have to shop some were.
I was at the Lemont show today, I was there about 10:30 am. This was the first time I attended this show. Not much to say maybe 20 dealers give or take a few, many open tables. I probably will not go to this show again. I picked up a couple of Proof Roosevelt dimes. Filled a few holes in the Dansco album. I hope to make the show in Countryside next week.
that one is always packed, I really like that one and Lemont is so close to my house I just have to go. I am about 15 mins away, so I go once in awhile
I too dislike the Lemont Show. And if you just started to go there, you missed it when it was even smaller and in a place that was not easy to find. I'm in between all of the coin shows. I too like Coutryside the best but my best deals have always been at Itasca. 1st sunday every month Lemont 2nd sunday evey month Countryside 3rd sunday evey month Itasca Supposed to be that rally big one at Rosemont in April. Not sure when yet. Usually get a post card in advance. So if no coin shows by you, move to Illinois.
Carl let me know about the the Rosemont one and I'll be sure to take off work for it and I will finally meet ya in person
