My first business strike 2019 in change today...looks slightly worse than the W proof but also cost me a cent and the W was free!

A couple of 1943-S Steel Lincolns. One has a weak 4 and the other shows a prominent obverse die crack, and it's super lustrous. I really like "silver pennies." :D

The die crack is actually a die break, and even more interesting it's a Retained Cud. It is listed in Cuds on Coins as:

    RCD-1c-1943S-25

    Check it out here:

Edited to add: oops, it looks almost like #25, but I don't think it's the same. Looks like you may have a new discovery!

Dang! Thank you, Ray. I appreciate the added information! I'm just now getting into Lincolns, and I realize that I need to take it slow and enjoy the journey. I've got a lot to learn.....

Close-up: Looks like there is another crack/break included.

Nice discovery piece (hopefully). Are both graded or raw?

That's just eBay not wanting to show you an auction that has ended.

Anything going on with the 4 or do I need new glasses? I seriously think I do need a new prescription.

A weak 4, maybe? Here's a close-up of mine. It appears blurry while the 19 and 3 look sharp. Your 4 looks much stronger than mine, though.

Steel Cents have a lot of oddities that look like DDOs, RPMs, etc but they are usually the results of die wear, polishing, etc.

So at the flea mkt today and stopped by the old man's set up. He has a bunch of stuff and 1 case where he has coins and exonumia that is usually priced just a tad high and he NEVER budges on marked prices. So I see this Whitman with 54 cents for $4 and quick math says less than 8 cents apiece plus the Whitman which is in good shape, so I buy it for the fun of going through them.

The first coin is in the 1909 slot and pop it out and acetone bath and dry it and is a vdb. Maybe a ag3 but still probably a $5 coin. Needs verdicare for the green spot. Still looking through the others but not in great shape overall but there are some 25 and 50 cent coins in the bunch...fun hunting though! PhotoEditor_20190316_195108483.jpg

Albums for dirt cheap are always worth it. Just pure numismatic fun with a low price of admission.

@rmpsrpms @robec - I submitted my images to JC Stevens (cuds-on-coins.com) for analysis, and it has received a new classification: RCD-1c-1943S-31. Here is the link: http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cent-retained-cuds-1943d-1943s/. I'm glad you were able to pick up on the difference, Ray. It's cool to be a part of bringing a new variety to light.
