Just received this grouping from my uncle. Keep them? I don't believe there's anything of significant value. Thanks for the insight...
Blue Seal $1 Circulated silver certificates are trading around 1.25-1.50 each I don't know about the Red or Lime Green seals.
Unless you need the money, don't spend them. $94 bucks? Will it hurt you to hang on to them? They're still worth at least that much for now and indefinitely. Maybe they're worth more. They're definitely cool.
I was actually being facetious about spending them. Just wondered if they were ever going to be worth more than the $1.25-$1.50 they seem to be at for the last 50 years. Or visit the LCS.
Pick out 3 of the best examples of the blue seals you have and keep them, again I cant speak for the other ones everything else can go!
I don't think an LCS will give you that much of a premium for them, if the coin shops I've been to sell them for $1.50, then they'll probably give you face value. However, IF you can sell them even for a minor premium as bulk, then that is a good way to downsize. But, it's a nice collection that you have. I would hold onto the notes.
Yep, then when the grandkids get old enough to learn to appreciate them, lay a couple on them. I got started from my grandmother back in the late 60's early 70's.
I already have about 30 avg. condition, 10 unc., and 3 star silver certificates in my collection. It's quite a nice thing to save for the future generation.
I was in a coin store when a waitress came in with a 2 inch stack of worn ones. The owner told her he didn't want them and to either spend them or keep them.
Keep them.....I does not matter if they are worth a quarter extra! some day in the future they may be worth a lot more.
Back when they first announced the end of redemption in silver was coming up, my brother and I bought all the silver certs we could at $1.05 per note. Then we took them up to the SF mint and traded them in for silver bars [100 oz, + or -; alas, nothing stamped on them; weight and fineness written by felt marker] at $1.29/oz. "Change" was little manila envelopes with one oz in them. People called us idiots ["save them, the notes will be rare"], but we finally dumped them at about $20/oz. [On the east coast you went to the Treasury to do this.] I still have one of those little manila envelopes of silver.
How about spending 1 or 2 during coin week in April? https://www.greatamericancoinhunt.com/ I plan on spending an Ike, an Indian cent, a steel cent, a buffalo 5 cent, a bunch of wheaties. It may cost me $20 or so, but it JUST MAY get a future YM interested.
I would keep all of them. It's true the 1's don't have much value but they are cool and the higher denomination notes have some value. Like 7-8 on the blue 5, the old red 5's have value, the old FRN 5 is awesome. $140-$150 for all of it.
