India coins

    is there a web site that specializes in this area? i have 2 1892, and a 1887 and 1898 all 1/2 pice trying to find info on. i noticed on the india coins i have there are differnt areas w/ writing and marking that i ned to match up to find out what they are. thankyou.

    Well, the date shown is 1950 which corresponds more to 1893 AD. They are marked as 1 paisa coins issued by the Indian Princley state of Baroda (in modern day Gujarat) ruled by "Shri. Sayaji Gaikwad" (III) Thats about all I can tell you!

    These are very common coins and will fetch $1 to $8 depending on the condition.. In this condition, it can be valued around $1 to $2.

    The Bahawalapur quarter anna (aka 1 paisa) is Y#13 from that Indian Princely State. The copper coin has the Ottoman Empire's toughra on the reverse and a bust of Muhammad Bahawal Kahn V on the obverse. The AD 1940 date is a little unusual for an islamic coin of that period, and Krause lists it under the date AH1359.

    Mintage is not listed, and the 2008 35th Ed. values it at 30¢ VG or 75¢ F.
