Just started looking at coins, found this 1984P dime. Looks like a possible error. Is it common or does it have some value. Does anyone know anything about this?

    It's a collar clash

    The dies were slightly mis-aligned,
and clashed with the reeded collar,
transferring the 'reeds' to the die.

A keeper yes, but it's only worth a buck at best. Welcome to CT.

I sure would keep it and I would keep it along with a copy of this thread which contains Mr. Weinberg's diagnosis and explanation. Nice.
