Good morning from the Eastern Time Zone:)
I know this Washington has damage from a coin wrapper. However I am handling this individual quarter because it is the Only one in the roll that has this damage.
I opened a new roll of 2017 D and find that they are all exactly the same. Same everything. These coins have couple things going on with them that are fun and interesting;)
It is an explanation of the color that I need help figuring out right now. They are all this same color too.
    They are beautiful!

Yes dear Paddyman:) thank you for helping me. I did know already that the damage was due to the wrapper. I have a question as to the color. All of the exact same ATB quarters in the same roll with the same deep grey frosted coloring?.with a sheen to boot

Maybe they were in a hurricane flood and got soaked in salt water? Like Texas or something. I stayed at a holiday inn last night so I know everything.;):p:D:D

I don't think you will ever find the true answer to your question. If all 40 of the coins have the exact same toning, they would have to have been stored (loosely) in the same environment. Even that would seem strange because it would stand to reason that the side facing down would not be affected by the same environment as the side facing up.

Of course, it's possible that the roll of coin metal from which the blanks were punched was made up of an improper mixture, but that would mean there should be tens of thousands of them floating around.

Can it be cleaned off? I mean is it like a zink dust maybe?

No it can't be cleaned. It is part of the composition of the metal. So perfect and so pretty. Frost like in appearance but smooth in texture. It glistens slightly.

    Just saw this thread.

    It's struck on a Mis-Annealed Planchet.
