This may be a silly question, but does anyone know how many ounces there are in a one pound silver round? I know that different things are measured differently. So, is it 12 or 16 ounces? Thanks.
16 ounces to a avoirdupois pound 28 grams to an avoirdupois ounce..... avoirdupois pounds and ounces are what we commonly use BUT!! 1 Troy Ounce is 31.1 grams and 1 Troy Pound is 12 Troy Ounces AND.....1 Avoirdupois pound is ~14.583 Troy Ounces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_weight Good Luck Pete
Not a silly question at all and I'm not sure myself but I believe it's 12 troy ounces. Now, how many in a ton?
okay, now I am even more confussed! So, if I have a one pound silver round, (actually a couple): How do I calculate the silver value? (say silver is $18.81 an ounce.) And then how is silver priced on the open market? And then......... oh, help! [Lost on Long Island.]
There's this fellow on eBay who sells silver by the "Troy pound" hoping that people don't know the difference. Nothing about it breaks the rules either, but he sure could use a big punch in the nose.
okay, now I am ever more confused. so, 16 oz X 28 grams = #448 grams per ounce and 14 x 31.1= #435.40 grams per ounce (troy). Cute, but......... How do I calculate the value? is the silver value as listed on the market in troy or 'regular people' ounces?
silver price listed on the market is in troy ounces, here is how to convert troy pounds to troy ounces. multiply how ever many troy pounds of silver you have by 11.999999 or twelve, and that will convert the troy pounds to troy ounces. or just use this site http://www.metric-conversions.org/cgi-bin/util/convert.cgi monkeyman
So I guess I can take from this that the token in this thread: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=19968 is 8 ounces Silver is at $19.21 so the value would be $153.68 At least I know this was a nice little investment ... By the way Frank - 8 ounces is a pretty impressive weight - the one pound tokens must really be something else to hold.
or is it really only worth?: 6 troy Oz Times 19.21 $115.26 or 8 ounces coverts to 7.29166 T oz Times 19.21 $140.07 So I guess the question for me is how did the Washington Mint sell this silver round? US pounds or Troy Pounds.
Despite some of the numbers above: 1 US pound = 16 US ounces = 453.59 gm. 1 US ounce = 28.35 gm = 0.9116 troy ounce 1 troy pound = 12 troy ounce = 373.23 gm 1 troy ounce = 31.1 gm = 1.0970 US ounce
Divide 12 by 2 Again I am assuming it was sold as 1/2 of a troy pound if bullion is sold by the troy ounce I'll admit - it's all Franks fault for bringing it up
:loud: 12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound...12 Troy ounces to a Troy Pound! Did the message sink in yet or do I and others have to repeat it again? Frank
not quite. you cannot mix the measuremtns anymore then you can mix feet and pounds. They are 2 different measurements. 16 oz = 1 pound in our system 12 oz = 1 troy pound. they may have the same labels, but are quantified differently. lets not make the issue any more confusing then it can be
Frank: Okay I got the picture the first time, but...... Is silver priced on the market in troy ounces? Sheesh, ya woulda thunk that this was simple.
