If you said in the listing that you'd ship in 1 business day, and you shipped in 5 business days, they should give you a poor star rating when they leave feedback. If they didn't hear from you for five days, and sent you a message saying "never mind, just cancel the auction", maybe you should've done that. If you sent the coins late, and they want a full refund and to keep the coins, they can go pound sand. They were coins, not Domino's Pizza. If they messaged you to give them a full refund or they'll leave negative feedback, you're golden; let them do it, point out the message to eBay, and eBay will remove the feedback. Don't screw up shipping next time. But don't let a buyer walk over you. What they're demanding is ridiculous. If you have questions, you can reach eBay customer service by phone; it might be worth talking to them if things go south.
Yeah I really want to get a Trade dollar, but they are so expensive. I will probably have to settle for an 1877 S, mintage of 9 1/2 mill + .
I would like to preface this message by saying i do not side with the seller. Just because the item is tardy doesn't warrant a full refund. However, i also don't think Schepys_coins is in the right either. Here is a link to his listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/1000-Wheat...00-Free-Or-Buy-2000-Get-200-Free/283381543780 It says free delivery in 4 days. This means his handling time is set at 1 day, and his shipping is at a service that is ranging between 1-3 days (priority mail) (You can see all of this under the shipping and payments tab on the listing). If i were the buyer and i had seen no tracking number entered for 4 days, i would be a bit angry as well. I feel this is a normal reaction, especially if no contact is made by the seller. If you can't ship within 1 day, change your handling time. Easy as that. Schepys_coins also got a neutral feedback as of yesterday with the buyer claiming 7 days and still no coins (after it says 4 day delivery!). I'm going to assume this is the same buyer as mentioned in this thread. If it was the post office causing the delay, fine, it's not your fault and you can easily message the seller back saying that. But considering your handling time was quadrupled, the buyer has a right to be angry and leave negative feedback.
Question: Is it that URGENT you get the item within 4 days or 6 days or? This nonsense never had occurs selling mags, trains, stamps, etc.? Please explain the beef?
Isn't the buyer, IF he has the product, wrong? If "...Ebay is now a professional selling platform..." then their policies , fees, and ability to utilize it should reflect that. Millions of "little folks" still use it. Don't give them a pass. If folks want "...customer service from purchases at a level similar to other sites...." get off eBay as the rest of average folk are not Amazon, etc. :-(
Could not disagree more. Plenty of auction sites take several days to ship, Amazon you pay higher prices for the service, auction houses charge for shipping etc. It's basically like expecting Ruths Chris quality of steak at Dennys. Should sellers try and provide good service absolutely, but that level of drop everything service comes at a price that is not being paid for on eBay. You will waste a ton of packaging getting things ready to ship the moment they get a bid on it. Buyers don't have to pay and can retract bids at will on eBay which again is something they cannot do at other auction houses.
Having sold on Ebay for over a decade, I couldn't disagree more with this post. Have you ever sold there? I have never wasted a moment packing and getting things out on time once a bid comes up. The one time someone retracted a bid, I had another offer ready in the waiting and I could ship immediately. Customers consistently tell me how much they appreciate the fast shipping and I've had many return customers. Never underestimate or skimp on customer service, even on Ebay. That's a recipe for failure.
Thanks a LOT, wxcoin! I am definitely going to check it out. I don't like eBay (well, i love buying on eBay but not selling). And the thought of listing valuables of any sort on Craigslist doesn't thrill me, even though I know how to take precautions.
I think the issue is "delivering on what you've agreed to". If you state in the auction terms that you'll ship within 1 business day and use a shipping method that gives 2-3 day delivery, then do that, or else you'll have unhappy customers. If you can't ship that quickly, say so in the auction terms; eBay is happy to let you specify whatever handling time you like.
Yes I have for years and if you've only had one retraction and no buyers that don't pay you've gotten very lucky. It didn't really used to be an issue a couple years ago but after all the Amazon like return changes and everything they've been trying to implement the last few years the number of problem buyers for a lot of people has increased. True they are, but they're also happy to basically bury your listing if it says anything but one day. There is a big flaw in the system though if you live on the east coast. The system changes over to a new day a 3am eastern time, so if someone pays Wednesday morning at 2:45 am eastern that's considered a Tuesday sale for an east coast seller and you're expected to ship same day Wednesday.
My My experience with local dealers has been , "watch your back" They will offer you 10 cents on the dollar or less. Without a blush. Find a reputable venue and sell them yourself.
wxcoins suggested Great Collections to me. (Thanks again, BTW). I have contacted them and they seem like straight shooters. However, I really do not know them. This makes me somewhat hesitant to package up $5000 or so worth of coins and ship them to someone that I don't know from Adam. It seems that nothing would keep them (or anyone) from saying, "Gee. We received your package today. There were no coins in it." I'm considering taking my Southwest points and flying to Orange County to hand-deliver the coins and get a receipt for them.
They wouldn't do that. Reputation for honesty means much much much much more to them than 5k and handle plenty of submissions all the time. Whether or not that is the proper venue for your material would be the question as certain things do better at some venues than others, but honesty is something you don't have to worry about with them.
Thanks, baseball. Being relatively new (again) to the coin collecting game, I had not heard of them before. But this seems like the way to go for me.
