    While I understand that this post was aimed at the post-Soviet period, Ukraine had a great history before there ever was a USSR. I'm not 100% certain where the modern borders fall with regard to the ancient sites in every instance but one certainly in what is now Ukraine is Olbia where early coins were made in the shape of dolphins. Later (3rd-1st century BC), round coins showed the head of the river god Borysthenes (Dnieper).

    Interesting design, particularly because of the "different" way Narbut is depicted: Not a portrait as on many other coins, but rather a silhouette, and with a foot on a stool ... Thanks for showing us these coin!

    This should be an interesting coin - struck in Feodesia, Crimea. Not going to spark a debate of who Crimea belongs to, whether it's Russia or Ukraine...
