howdy everyone. just thought i'd share a funny little story with you: every sunday, my friends and i hit the gym. after the work out we head over to our local Baja Fresh. for those of you who dont know what a Baja Fresh is, its an upscale taco bell that is absolutely delicious. so today we head over as usual and i order my giant burrito and beverage, and the total comes to $8.78. i hand the young female cashier $9.00, all monroe presidential dollars! she stands there and looks puzzled staring into her hand, then at me, then back at her hand. i ask her if there is a problem, and she asks me to please wait a moment while she gets the manager. the manager comes up, and asks what the problem is, and i told him i have no problem at all. she then turns to the manager and asks him how does she enter in gold "tokens" as payment. he looks at her like she had 3 heads and says "what?!?" she shows him the dollars and he looks right at her and asks if she is stupid? those are dollars he tells her. she says to him, "no they arent, the dollar coins have a little indian girl on them, these have some guy on them." all the while i am holding out from laughing out loud at this poor girl, who has no idea what is going on. she finally understands and accepts the money and completes the transaction. i find it amazing that a) todays youth doesnt know anything about current u.s. money, b) they have no idea about u.s. presidents, and c) well there is no c. its just a little scarry to think that some day, these kids will run this country. thanks for reading, Greg
You have to admit there's allot more in circulation now days than there was ten or 15 years ago. You have about 50 different quarters and the Sac dollar, Susan B and the dead president dollars. Plus the old green backs, the big head notes and the colorized notes also. That's quiet allot for a kid that's probably only been handling money for a few years. Lou
Yep - she learned something today. I can't say a whole lot since the good lord made me car stupid - yet he did create AAA for me. So I can see where she might not know about the pres dollars.
It still amazes me how many old people do not know about the presidential dollars, at least in my area. I have a Washington pocket piece I like to show sometimes. To this day only one person knew what it was. Some said they have heard of it but never seen one. Think maybe they were fibbing. Most thought it was some kind of a quarter. I wanted to get a roll of the first 4 presidents but our local banks did not get the Madison. They can not get rid of the first 3 presidents they already have. There was a little excitement when the Washington error coins were reported but the coins were returned to the banks after they were searched.
lol, that is true, but the good news is they will probably learn something between now and then. I know I'm glad I'm not judged today on what I knew (or didn't know) as a 16-year-old. lol
LOL, :mouth:, thanks for sharing. Surprises me that people know so much about the lives of different celebrities, but they don't even know what some of there money is. Phoenix
Just be glad you weren't in Minooka Illionois and got arrested for attempting to spend your illegal funny money.
Fun story, to bad the manager had to call her stupid, at least he could have waited till you weren't around. Hope she learned something though.
Truth The trouble started the day before you went there. She was chewed out for accepting a $25 bill.
"I know I'm glad I'm not judged today on what I knew (or didn't know) as a 16-year-old. lol" What??? I have never been as smart as I was at 16! As I recall, I knew pretty much everything....
I can relate, mark. However, if you were a mechanic and not car smart, I'd have to worry. People who work with money all day should at least know what it looks like. that manager probably had some sleepless nights. Guy~
