so i win an auction for a set of BU Memorial cents and have nothing but headaches from a guy with over 4000 positive feedbacks. every single question i ask is met with obfuscation and a request that i ask all questions via eBay, not directly.

i will never buy any more coins from eBay as a result of this - what a freaking headache for $20.00 worth of coins.

I equate ebay to going to a pawn shop on the bad side of town. It's buyer beware, but you can get good deals on some things.

i'm sure the product is fine. i have never had this much trouble - how hard is it to answer a question?

the problem is the seller is "buried under 100's of emails" and doesn't have time to answer my questions - but has time to tell me he can't answer my questions - strange.

me thinks someone isn't very organized and needs to learn to create folders for each transaction, but than again they are using a hotmail account...

screw eBay - too many "lowbid" sellers. much like going to Target vs. Walmart, i'll pay a little bit more for a better shopping experience.

That's like saying you had a bad experience at one of the fast food places in the Mall of America, so you won't shop at malls any more. Slight over-reaction IMHO.

,,Whats the problem? The seller asked you to CONTACT HIM VIA EBAY? SO do it. Do it a hundred times. He asked for you to message him through ebay and not to email. So do it. I dont think I see what the problem is? If he dosnt want to deal with loads of emails then he dosnt want to deal with loads of emails. I can't say i blame the seller for that. I mean think about it, Say your selling 20 things and you get 5 emails for each item thats 100 emails. Its a bit of a pain in the rare to deal with that. And thats just 20 and 5. think if its 30 and 7 or 30 and 11, Im sure theres a reason the SELLER WANTS question through EBAY MESSANGER only. Now I my self think ebay sucks. But to sit here saying IM NOT USEING EBAY EVER AGAIN because of something like this. Thats like saying Im never going to drink water again because it was too cold once.

the problem is he is evading my questions by making me re-ask them through eBay when the issues have no bearing on eBay. and yes, i'm judging the entirety of eBay sellers in this - i have used eBay for over a decade and this seems to be the norm - work hard on the front end of a sale and then do nothing to manage the details after payment has been made.

i used to make a living reselling through eBay and have dealt with many great buyers and sellers, but they seem to be the exception in many ways.

i think i'll stick with reputable dealers who i can have face to face dealings - i figured for $20.00 it should be a no brainer transaction - seems i was mistaken.

Let me get this straight. He will not answer a question that has "when the issues have no bearing on eBay". Therefore eBay is no good. HUH?!?!?!

i asked him for the shipping info and he told me he sent it yet i never received the details via email - i asked him to provide the details again and i got a bit of a runaround staying he didn't know which auction was mine (auction number in the email) and he didn't have time.

this has nothing to do with coins, more to do with the quality of sellers one might encounter. sure there are plenty of top shelf guys, but i'm not wasting any more time dealing with some guy who can't figure out which auction he has shipped out or those that have been paid and are awaiting shipment.

i'll chalk it up to poor backend management skills on his part - glad it was only $20.00 on the line.

when i was making a living doing sales and used eBay as an outlet, i seemed to do just fine tracking over $250k per month worth of sales via email - typically 125-150 auctions a month. but i guess i'm just awesome???

There are a lot of guys like this on eBay... basically they have zero organizational and time management skills and are in way over their head.

I have zero tolerance for this kind of seller... if he can't handle the heat, then he needs to get out of the kitchen. You need to BUG him RELENTLESSLY. And if you don't get any satisfaction, take it to eBay or better yet, PayPal if you paid that way.

Whenever I have trouble with a seller, I skip eBay all together and place a PayPal claim... that gets their attention real quick. Just remember you only have 45 days to make a claim.

It has to do with the shipping of an eBay sale. Therefore, it has to do with eBay.

As to why he wants the eBay mail:
    1. eBay mail automatically ties to the transaction listing. It makes it easier for him to determine how to answer your question. Apparently he thinks that he is not as good as you used to be. He is trying to be save.
    2. eBay has access to THEIR mail. In case of a problem, they can then determine what happened. Outside mail, at the very best, makes it difficult to track the problem. And shipping is part of the transaction and, therefore, is an eBay issue.

you are not the seller so your guess is as good as mine - he had all the info, i replied to his reply of my message i sent using "contact seller" via eBay. i think he is just being lazy and can't be bothered to take 2 minutes and copy and paste the email he sent.

i don't need eBay playing 3rd party babysitter for the seller - it's simple - if someone asks for the info, just send it - i finally got the info after a song and dance, if he was slammed, just saying so would have been fine - it wasn't that i didn't trust him, i was just curious when i should start looking for the package.

the point of the thread has more to do with a headache as the result of a bottom shelf seller - poor management skills and probably poor social skills caused the problems - it's not difficult to list items, a monkey could do that, the real skill is managing completed auctions and seeing the process through to the end. i think that part is lost on most people. kinda like how sales clerks give back change these days - here's your lump of money....

and stay off my lawn ;)

    Steve,

I am sorry that you are having a bad experience with eBay! Not all transactions or Sellers are this way. Yes, I have had my bad experiences with transactions, Sellers and Buyers alike but generally out of a hundred transactions, you will only have about 5 bad experiences. Now that number could be higher if you steer towards Auctions run by some of the more shadier Sellers, so you can post a question here concerning the Auction and/or Seller and get opinions and facts.

The Seller more than likely wants you to use eBay's email system where you click on the link within the Auction page as this automatically sends a copy to the Seller and a copy to his'/her' eBay Message page. In this way, he or she gets the link to the Auction which includes the item number and helps hm or her keep track of which item the email is in reference to, helps him or her keep track of incoming emails and his or her responses and insures that he or she receives the email in case his' or her' email account sees the email as spam and send it to a spam folder. Due to differences in types of coding an ISP uses, some emails will make it through and others get automatically sent to a spam folder! Whenever I am selling on eBay, I constantly have this problem.
