I ordered 10 coins from dirty old coins to clean. This is one I've cleaned.

Where the ring is measured just over 20mm but it isn't cut out perfectly. It is 3g and there is a silvery color beneath the patina. I'm not finding a mint mark on the bottom of the reverse and I don't want to dig and deeper on cleaning it.

I think it's something similar to this.

Wrong Emperor. The coin you point to is Probus. This is Aurelian. The reverse is similar but yours reads IOVI CONSER. I suspect that the exe on yours read *T.

    Compare with this:-

And no need to measure the ring... In ancients, we don't do that. Coins aren't cut out like in the modern process.

Measure the coin at its widest and that's its diameter, or if it is very oval, you can measure its widest and narrowest and represent it like 22mm x 17mm.

    I hope that makes sense!

And Martin is right, you can see "AVRELI" at the top of your obverse legend. Many reverse types were minted by many emperors.

You guys are good. I'm still trying to build up the catalogue from memory. Now that I'm doubting myself. What are these two?
IMG_20190306_071748859.jpg IMG_20190306_072021989_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg I think this is a Valens RIC 5b type ii from Siscia
IMG_20190306_072035745.jpg IMG_20190306_072102829_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg And I think this one is a Constans 66b from Nicomedia

I'm honestly trying to do this and not depend on you guys too much but I also don't want to mislabel anything.

    Your help is always appreciated.

I can take them out of their cases if you need better photos.

The second one looks more like Constantius II, from Cyzicus, possible RIC VIII Cyzicus 48. It is hard to tell for sure from the photos.

We can see TIVS P F AVG so Constantius II it is then. The bust looks to be wearing a pearl diadem. The exe looks like SMKA. This narrows it down to RIC VIII Cyzicus 48, 55 or 63. The difference here is exactly what is in exe. RIC 48 is SMKA, 55 has dot SMKA and 63 has star SMKA. Yours is unclear but I would bet on it being RIC 48 as this is the more common variant of the 3 and without any other evidence is the best that you are going to achieve.
The Valens appears to be correct.

I see the obverse legend of DN VALEN - S PF AVG.

Thanks Martin! So now that I know where to look for the mint on this one. It looks like it is SMK triangle. Or triangle with horns...idk terms I'm a newb.

it is in fact SMKA or SMK Delta. Either are possible and don't change the overall attribution.

I can't pull anything up from the letters I'm interpreting from this one. I think i see *BO*V and nothing else really. I've seen this bust before but now when I have a similar coin and I try to find it.....smh. I didn't even touch this coin, this is how it arrived from dirtyoldcoins....I thought they were uncleaned. Kinda took the fun in it away from me.

I have been collecting ancients for 15 or so years. So just a beginner compared to many around here.

Myself and another (or more) CT member have had good experiences with Noble Roman Coins for uncleaned coins.

Edit: your posts have prompted me to buy some more uncleaned from them, but this time I got the better True Premium coins (are larger coins). Thanks!

Yeah I ordered 5 more from their bog find. One of them was cleaned so poorly that there are deep gouges from what looks like a metal pick.

Those marks behind his head aren't from me. I use the Andre pencils and Renaissance wax, I hope those are ok to use. These should be labeled, "You finish it, it's not worth my time coins", rather than "uncleaned".
