Bought a handful of Buffalo's this weekend, got a nice '26-S, '26-D, '16-S and a decent 1915-D. Overall really pleased with the purchase, several better dates, lots of full horn or near full horn common dates. I put the '15-D under the loupe and it turns out it's a RPM variety listed in the Cherry Pickers guide. Any additional info or thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks everyone! It was cool to look through it under the scope and it looked exactly like the example in the CPG. Based on auction results I assume it’s a $100-125 coin. Not bad considering I paid $25 for the entire lot.
Nice catch! I usually always have my loupe handy just in case. Yes I keep one in the car because you just never know when you might stumble onto something unexpected while out and about.
Yep-you hit the jackpot! Now check your 1926-D for the 3 1/2 legged variety-note the right front leg.
Would anyone be willing to offer thoughts on a grade? I’m terrible at grading, but yet somehow even worse at grading Buffalo’s, Franklin’s and Peace dollars. I get stuck on the weakness of the date and can’t separate wear from strike. The obverse looks about G4-6 and the reverse is maybe up to F12. Liberty is fully separated from the rim and the reverse has a weak, but full outline of the horn. Only asking to learn so any thoughts / feedback are appreciated. Thanks.
