This is my girlfriend's, and neither of us understood why the protection. Online it said perfect MS76 I believe it was?, most expensive 1969D sold a little over 7400$. I'm new, loving coins amd history, and of course the hunt. Don't care to sell, tho it is gf's. Question is, to get a layman's idea before i tell her go for it or never mind it, how to know if it's worth getting it appraised and graded professionally?
An MS 76 grade doesn't exist. https://www.pcgs.com/grades Highest one is MS70. And, as furryfrog noted, uncirculated 1969 cents are quite common. A couple coins like yours are on eBay for $1/$2.
It would have to grade at MS 65 to be worth .31¢. Grading fee $30.00 + . https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/small-cents/lincoln-memorial-cent/
Welcome to CoinTalk @Kevin Gorham . What you will get here in terms of feedback on the coins you post and ask about is far more than a "layman's" opinion. CoinTalk has some of the most knowledgeable numismatists around. (I am not one of them but those others who have answered you on this thread so far have great knowledge).
It looks like a thank you throw in. I've bought from a number of eBay sellers that throw in a small bonus... a roll of nice BU 1969s aren't worth cherrypicking, but for a buck's worth of 2x2s and sticky labels (while watching the boob tube) - might make you follow the seller and buy more from him/her. Of course, it can backfire - I have a reprocessed (bright shiny) steelie labeled "BU" and "GIFT" on my desk. Not exactly a recommendation for the sellers coin eye. But I also have a nice note from "Ed" who tossed in a couple of well circulated Buffalo Nickels to keep the NGC Collector's Society slabbed Circulated Buffalo company. It's cute and I still remember it.
I apologize. I meant that, in the way as when I tell folks what I have, even based on the knowledge of experts and otherwise educated people's in this subject, until the day comes when my knowledge is up to standards befitting an expert, I or family amd friends, would consider it a layman's opinion. Again I apologize any offense as it was never intended that way.
Welcome to CT. We can be a blunt bunch in response to coin questions. As long as you are open to learning and growing you'll have fun too .. even if a few of our conversations tangent away every so often. Just learn to ask questions, and if you don't understand a reply ask for clarification on what in the world they meant !! lol
