I went to the Gem Show this weekend, and my uncles girlfriend was going to buy something when I noticed an old-style 20. So of course I intervened and said "can I see that money" lol
turns out it was a 1981. But it had writing on it, so I let it go. If it was from the 60's or maybe 70's, I might have saved it. but I didnt think it was worth keeping.

but it was still fun finding something older than 1995 lol

a 1981 $20 from that district is valued at $150 in VG condition :D

    EXACTLY!

with these older syule notes, you NEVER know when a note might be worth a ton over face. Alot of districts were printed very lightly or for some other reason, prices are very much above other districts of the same series.

I dont know for sure if this series is one of those that has this scenario - But that is my point, without checking a book to be sure - you never know! And without knowing, and letting it pass, you might be letting a note worth more then face go, when it could have been had for face.

    oh no! lol
I'll take my chances - well, rather, I already took them!

But as I said, it did have some writing on it, which was kinda the deal sealer.

1981 $20s did not have any rare districts. since it had writing on it is only worth face value.

thanks for that insightfull post :D

do you memorize all the series district printings? I know i sure cant. And that is exactly the point i made above. You might have missed that post. But i was saying that without knowing, i would have bought it, checked when i got home, and then sold it if i didnt need or want it. But magman already replied that he didnt even want to take the chance because of the writing :p

    I don't think that's Daggarjon's point Coinlover.
Betting you just consulted your "site". Now assuming he didn't have a book, a laptop or have all the information committed to memory he really had no way of knowing.

If it were a C-* or I-* it would be a keeper (even with the writing). I would have kept it until I could consult with a reliable source.

    heh.
    Whats done is done.
That note is probably at the bank now.

but honestly, I dont think, unless it was a low serial number, or in good shape, I would have kept it even without the writing.

In light of Daggerjohns general statement. There were 2 series issued in 1981 (1981 and 1981A)

In CHCU all non stars are listed in the 60-75 dollar range (all districts) and stars are going from 125.00 and up according to Schwartz/Linquist 8th Edition. What Dagger is saying is that when you find an older note, regardless of it's initial condition, pick it up for face and check it out..ya just never know!

    Good hunting to you all...

    Old $20

I like old 1934 bills. But what prices are reasonable for $20 bills? I saw three $20 bills consecutive serial numbers on ebay for $200. Thats over THREE times face value. I bought three consecutive $50 bills for $300. Thats only TWO times face value.

I get them at face when they come into any of my banks. Let me just say I have made friends with the tellers so I get calls when the good stuff comes in. But then I owe them favours too, like having to take all the deuces they cannot get rid of etc.

PS I live in a locale with many older residents that occasionally dig out this stuff and take it and spend it or bank it. So it happens about 1 x 2 x a month. Just a couple of weeks ago I got these:
