Well, I did something I hate to do, but the coin was right and so was the price.

I got a over graded National Numismatic Certification coin. It is a 1973-D Ike. They grade is MS66. I grade it at 63 or 64. But since the price was cheap... I got it anyway... I plan to take the pliers to the slab -soon-....

LOL Ive done that a few times myself. Sometimes those self slabbers sell the coin for less money than the could have raw. And I think thats great. I bought a few BU walkers for like $8 each that way.

Now that is what I call buying the coin, not the slab. Good show!

Nothing wrong with that if know what you are doing. I look at the self slabbers, but most times the prices go to high for the grade I think they are.

I joined you. I bought a 1911-S MS67 BN (yeh! Sue!!) Lincoln - or at least that is what NAS called it. I think it has a shot at AU. Since I only paid $49 shipping included, I am very pleased. FYI - I have no idea where the green came from on the left wheat, but it is not on the coin.

If you can get modern coins at the "right" price, no problems.
But older coins, even if you grade them correctly, still have the problem with likely being cleaned.

I guess that NNC made a mistake.
I thought that they only graded Au's as MS-66.

WOW! Sometimes they even use an UNC! I guess that they ran out of AU's.

Well..... it's pretty damn hard to find a circulated 1973 Ike. the 1973s are Mint set only issues.

But I suspect that NNC is a low life slabber.

Hey, that is why they actually used an unc!

Let's face it, you just did the coin collecting world a favor by destroying that slab anyways...
