Those weird prices and scam types on Etsy do not last all that long six months would be stretching it. This place has been around forever.

It's a shame too. When my grandfather passed and I inherited his collection - which got me started collecting in ernest - He had a 2001 ASE in one of those plastic Littleton holders. I really hope he didn't pay too much for it.

The last times I ordered from Littleton was 6 "gold" dollars...latest issues for $6. I don't have a problem with that...their other prices...weeeeeeeeell...

Yeah..... Littleton is a dinosaur in an digital age. They are incredibly overpriced. However they my be single handedly responsible for bringing more interested young numismatists into the hobby than anybody else...... In the days before we had an Internet and I was overseas in the service Littleton kept me connected to the hobby. That was long long ago but I’ll always appreciate those folks for keeping my coin fires burning on the other side of the world.

I actually thought their "coins on approval" program was pretty darn neat when I was a kid. Living in an area with no coin shops, this was the next best thing for building my meager collection at the time and, honestly, I didn't think the prices were too far out of whack back then. Can't speak to what they are doing these days though.

They very well could have brought the most people in until the internet market fully formed.

Now I would say it's the internet itself as it's easy to stumble across a coin and want to see more

Variety shopping from zillions of sellers.

Exactly. It's easy to stumble upon something on the various big selling sites and look closer at it

No question..... Myself, I never would have known how unscrupulous some internet sellers could be until I joined CT. And other than astronomical prices, I feel confident that Littleton has likely never tried to pass a counterfeit coin knowingly on anyone.

Same things happen in shops and coin shows. Only difference is at least on the internet it's in the open so someone else may be able to help and you have ways to get your money back.

No different than anything else in life, good and bad apples in all venues of it.
