Yeah, $33K wouldn't go too far for living most anywhere in the USA, but a sad fact is that a large number of people could not even deal with an emergency that cost then $500. It almost sounds like they may all be mistakenly thinking the Pres dollars are actual gold.

It's even more disgusting that it happened because he was trying to help the guy who robbed him

I just finished reading that article and find it very hard to believe any Presidential Dollar being worth $1,000.00. Especially 33 of them.

 

"The Palm Beach Post report s 20-year-old Shane Anthony Mele of Riviera Beach told investigators he stole the commemorative presidential dollar coins and other items from a North Palm Beach office in December."

Reading is fundamental.​

 

I read the entire article and I quote the last line "That means if he dropped in the 33 presidential coins, valued at $1,000 each, he got about $29.30". I was just questioning where did they arrive at the $1,000 each. I made no reference to "and other items". Nor did I question the value of his entire collection.

 

My buddy used to work at a prison and he used to talk about how dumb they were. "They're not in there cause they're smart." He said that they'd call out and tell their friends where they hid the money or to threaten someone to not testify etc. like they didn't seriously think that the prison would listen to their calls.

 

There's a sad reason why people in prison may do dumb things like that.

I've heard that corrections authorities use their state departments of education's 4th Grade reading assessments to determine the number of prison cells that they will need in the future. It doesn't mean that all of the kids who "can't read well by 4th Grade" will end up in prison, rather the results of that reading test are a reliable predictor of a certain percentage of them that will, within some margin of error.
