Guys I don't have a picture of this penny. But what I must tell you is the hundred percent truth and I need your opinion or if anybody knows of this coin. My coin guy has the coin now is why I cannot take a picture. This is a very distinctive coin I nobody ever seen it I do not know.. I was amazed and flattered as I looked at this coin. This is a 1970 d mint penny I looked at the date and I said it's a keeper almost $0.03 melt down value. As I looked up towards the top of the penny I immediately noticed the in God we trust was completely gone. The only thing that you could see was a slight color of wooly and part of trust but the imprint of the letters is not their 100% gone even my coin guy agrees. Also in liberty l i b is gone and then ERTY is very light struck. This is maybe 10% there if that. Possibly some goblin in the reverse side in one cent. The expert at told me this the coin guy. He was very amazed with his coin said he had never seen nothing like it. The great condition of the coin and no one had ever noticed this for 50 years he said how is this possible and then it is not in the red book or any book. He has figured if it is not in these books then this may be a new find I don't know guys you tell me I know there's point experts on here I just want more opinions. The coin is just how I explained it so if you can imagine that please give me your feedback on what you think. Do you think this could be a new discovery. Hopefully. I've never quite seen anything like this
There is absolutely nothing any of us can contribute to your post without a photo of the entire obverse, and a decent close up of the area(s) you've mentioned. It might be a rolled thin planchet, it might be damage, it could be anything - only photos will allow us to help you out.
Mark at the coin shop in Fayetteville is bringing the coin to to to look at March 3. Crazy lol. Hope it's interesting I no who you are by mark talking about to today
He is bringing the coin to you. He probably could send a photo. He said he has never seen anything like it
@Paul Garland Fred happens to be the exception, but the vast majority of dealers don't know squat about numismatic errors. Chris
It's a honor you to even message you. Or your insight. Glad of all the work you have done for the coin community. Thank you so much
Sounds like a worn die you have there. And yes letters will be missing. It's nothing. Seen it alot. But show a picture for more answers. To get the true answer.
It's not just missing letters on the front. All the letters in, in God we trust is gone. 5 percent of liberty is there on the erty. Sorry about the pic a coin guy has this coin now
Sorry I don't mean nothing in New at this. Two years in now. I don't understand what the polls are. I just found it very odd for that much letting to be percent gone. First time I ever saw this. Also a man that owns a coin shop that has been doing coins for 40 years said he has never seen anything like it. That this is possibly a new error . He is taking the coin to Fred Weinberg.
