I live about 20 minutes from Canada so I get a lot of Canadian pennies in my rolls so I decided to get a couple of Whitman for them. Found this one in a roll today. Need to figure out how to take better pictures because the actual penny looks better than the pics . . .
Would you be surprised to know that we get Canadian pennies in our change here in Houston, Texas all the time ? You'd think that being this close to Mexico we'd see some Mexican coinage in our change, but actually no. I think it's because the Mex money looks too different whereas the Canadian pennies are very similar in size and color to U.S. pennies. I do find some Panamanian coins in our rolls. U.S. money and Panama money are on par in Panama, meaning they can be used interchangeably, there, but not here. Surprisingly, I learned this from a lady friend who was born there and worked as a booking agent for one of the major airlines that ran the routes back and forth. Her father still lives there and she flies (free, of course) back and forth whenever she wants. She has brought me coins at times, but she knows little about the coin history of Panama, such as Panama's coins were minted here in the U.S. for many, many years. As a token of friendship, I gave her an uncirculated 1904 2 and 1/2 Centesimos coin, otherwise known as the " Panama Pill ". She had never seen or heard of it.
I bought the last one that I needed, I'm waiting on the mail now. It's a 1923 and it was an expensive little booger. I've got 2 older versions of this book. Now I'm gonna start finishing the second one.
Very close to Canada myself, Detroit area and I usually find 1 or 2 George VI cents in a box. First set I started was Canadian nickels actually.
