Nice one @Mat. These are fun to classify and a real challenge. I've been working my way through mine to classify, weigh and photograph. Some go quick and some take a while, especially the cut pennies where you only have half a coin to work with.

    Henry II AR Penny
    Class 1b
    +GODWINE.ON.WIR
    S-1344
Henry II Godwine on Winchester S-1344.jpg
    Henry II Cut AR penny
    Class 5c
    +WIL(LIM ON) LVND
    S-1352
    John AR Cut Penny +WIL(LIM ON)LVND Type 5c S-1352.jpg

Congrats on the Henry II penny @Mat he is such an important figure in the history of England that his coins are a must have for an English collection.

I'm not sure the coin is from the London mint or moneyer RAVL though. I've rotated the reverse so that the cross is at 12.

When I read the legend there looks like a C and E at 3 o'clock. Also, the initial letter in the legend looks rounded with a tail, like a G from class I. After ON, it looks like a W, followed by two indistinguishable letters and ended by a C. I'm 100% certain the moneyer isn't RAVL, his variations never had an E. The only moneyer with a CE for Henry II is GOCELM from the Wincester mint. Here is a much clearer example.

Its a great coin, regardless of the mint.

I just looked at the coin in-hand and I see all that you are pointing out. So you are correct & thank you.

It came in an old collection envelope with "Henry II" & "SCBC 1345". Second time this has happened.

And great coins, everyone. I love the Richard I @Suarez
