What would you do? Return or keep?

    Hello,
I just recieved my 3 piece proof set of Bald Eagle Commems. I inspected each coin under magnification and found lint and dust specks incased with the coins.

The worst of the three I am posting for you to see. I very very very carefully opened the Half Dollar being extremely careful not to touch the coin with my fingers. This is how I know this isn't lint.

I think it was embedded in the coin during production or scratched.

What would you do? Return the set for a replacement? Keep as is? If you kept it as is, would the flaw take away from the value/grading of the set?

    I appreciate your input.

return the set for one that you deem to be PERFECTLY acceptable. The struck-thru items will add nothing to the value of these coins. Your eyes will constantly be pulled to this defect every time you look at this coin, and IMHO you will always sigh and be unhappy that your coins aren't as perfect as everyone else's.

    RETURN

if its bugging you then you are not a satisfied customer and that means you should return it so they can satisfy you as a customer. seems like a simple enough concept.

Return it. The mint needs to learn it can't pass off shoddy merchandise.

I agree, but I have one concern. The mint is very close to selling out the 3-piece set. If you return it, it's possible they won't have any left by the time they receive yours. It might be safer to just order another set. You can still return the defective one for credit.

You still cannot order more than one per household of this set. You'll have to have someone else in a different household order it for you.

I spoke w/the mint rep. and I'm shipping that sucker back OVERNIGHT AIR/Insured !!! They will replace it and refund my shipping.

It's a crying shame that after waiting on the phone for 3 hours the day of the pre-sale that I finally get it today and it looks like it never even reached inspection !!! Do they even care ?!! Charging exhorbatant $$$ in the first place and then getting something like this !!!
    URGHHHHHHHH !!!

How many sets are going to be returned to the mint? Seems everyone is having problems with their sets nowadays. The inspection center must still be on vacation.

Absolutely return it. You don't need to shell out that kind of cash to get a coin that's going to not make you thrilled to own it.

send it back to the big fullfillment center in the sky, or spend them like coinman1974 says, it might be worth the looks people will give you.

Serious I'd return them, we spend too much money on coins and should be happy with what comes new from the mint.

return it. If you even have to question weather or not to keep it, then you are an unsatisfied customer, and should demand a replacement.
