I just got this Antonius Pius denarius for the "5 good" in silver, its chipped and has wear, seems to have a little crystallizing going on.. what's your take on it?..show your Antonius Pius denari and light coins too.. POST YOUR COINS & COMMENTS PEEPS!
While this coin averages 3.3 g, the British Museum has two specimens that weigh 2.98 and 2.96 g. With this one being chipped and crystalized, I'm not surprised it weighs less. I do wonder what that triangular patch is on the neck and shoulder of the bust is. Could it be a fouree core that has become exposed?
Cool coin! nice pick up and well used as all of mine are. Please peel that clear plastic off your scale... (there are 2 areas that need attention) .. I had an aunt that had the clear/greenish plastic on her brass bathroom light for a decade. Don't do that.
This denarius weighs 2.81 g. Julia Domna head-right. Reverse reads Juno Regina. Peacock at Juno's foot. The new Sear doesn't list this reverse legend. RIC 560.
