Wow -- it jumped from $1450 to $5000 with 3 seconds left in the bid.

Yikes is right. This is an $800-1100 coin (AU-50 to AU-58), tops. I wouldn’t pay more than AU details money ($600-700).

Correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like two folks tried to pay that kind of money.

And, no, I don't get it either.

If you look at the bid history, all bids above $1400 were made by bidders with either 0 feedback or 1 feedback. I would bet the seller never receives payment and this coin is either offered as a 2nd chance offer to a real bidder or relisted.

The master/working hubs and dies were all brand new in 1909. Nearly all examples are well struck. The only real problem they had was with the VDB on the reverse. It had very little relief and the die clogged easily there.

That said, it's a good diagnostic for a genuine SVDB. I can count on one hand the number of genuine SVDB's I've seen with any weakness in the VDB. So few were minted the dies never really got a point that it would cause problems.

Not a $5,000 coin. Seems suspicious. And why start it at .99 cents? That can backfire.

With 460,000 positive feedback, I think they know they have a large enough following that they could risk it.

its a key coin .... so i would be a bit suspicious with it not being graded ( or slabbed )

I'm sure it only started at $0.99 because that is (from my understanding) the default starting bid price for any eBay auction.

    Doesn't look funny to me.

Looks legit to me and worth what the market will bear.
