Is it really fair for the seller to take the time to go and buy the coin and risk his money. Then photo the item, type up the listing, make sure the item gets paid for and answer any questions. Ship the item as well as keep track of all shipping records. then have the item returned and make no profit. Remember this is my job. I have a family and bills just like you. You don't go to work and go home with out a pay check so why should I. Face it if you feed this way you are a freeloader that wants to place all risk on the seller and not take any personal risk. How is this fair. A 10% restocking fee is not much. On your item it was an amzing $6.11. Do you guys honstly feel as if I am trying to rip you off for six dollars. I would rather you keep the coin then go though all of this. If you don't feel the coin is worth the $61.10 that you paid then realize your mistake in bidding and pay the 10%.

If you can not deal with that just don't bid on the item.

I will not feel sorry for making a living by selling coins. If you want them cheaper bid less. It really is that simple.

Only a fraudulent seller would feel the need to defend to such an extent.

And only a predatory buyer would expect a seller to make no money for their time.

Let me ask you this. If you bought a coin with no problems that is worth $300.00 and you paid $400.00 would you return it after you found out you over paid.

Also if you bought a coin for $300 and found out it was worth $600 would you inform the seller and offer to pay more? I highly doubt it. Face it we are all greedy *****es by nature and we are only looking out for our selves. I clearly state the listing details that include the return policy. I answer all emails with in a few days as I am not in the office or at home all the time. If you don't like my feedback don't bid on my items. If you don't like the return policy either don't bid on the item or keep it. If you return it knowing that their is a 10% restocking fee don't complain. You entered into the contract of your own free will. Stop placing blame on everyone else and take some personal responsibility.

Answer all emails in a few days and yet you make a living doing this? How do we know you are not selling altered coins just to get the restocking fee? Then list it again until some unknowing individual buys the coin. I am sorry, but you do not have to worry about me bidding on any of your auctions. If nothing else you should pull those 1/4 pound wheat auctions - those are clearly a rip-off. Oh well!

The $6.11 plus the $3.25 that you didn't refund for shipping. So technically its over $9.00 just to look at a edited coin!

It's not that I paid too much, as I quite often pay more than CDN Greysheet for a coin with great eye appeal, yet your 1910 Lincoln was NO WHERE NEAR MS 64 RD, TRY MS 62 DETAILS DIPPED.

I feel I paid for something I didn't recieve and that is a "Quality Coin"

I am done with my ranting about you sir, I just wanted the other members on here to see what a bad seller you truly are.

:kewl: Okay, I'll let you in on the parody here: It's a NORFED Liberty "Dollar" inside an SGS slab. My full pic shows it as a "2000-P Silver $1". I created it as parody just prior to the NORFED investigations in 2006. Kinda makes two points with one slab

I still disagree with you on the point of restocking fees for the reasons stated. And as stated also, I believe in a FULL refund on misrepresented items. I have also placed a number of sales on bullion, "junk" metals, and large lots where I have actually encouraged the buyer to cherrypick and fish, to return the rest for a "refund minus 10%" of what was returned. Sometimes people are simply looking for specific items or a number of specific items (for circulated rolls, for instance), and it becomes quite a pain to try to hand off the remains without losing so much more money in the process.

In other instances, I offer absolutely no return on bullion/"junk"/lots. It all just depends on the individual case with whatever I may have up for sell. And eBay is the smallest of my selling venues. In fact, I hardly sell anything, since my business is not a dealership so much as it is into information services, analysis, and consultation.

Some people are comfortable with restocking fees, others are vehemently against them. To each their own, just like the "to slab or not to slab" debate. And I completely understand your stance on the situation, however still disagree with it for a number of reasons.

Primarily, the analyst side of me is very selective in how and what I categorize (stereotype) groups into. Everything takes on more a case by case determination. Some are obvious, some more subtle. That is where feedback comes into play, as well as a number of other factors.

In this particular case, the situation was a coin that was bought by the buyer and the buyer perceived that the coin was recolored. This determination was not just a blind guess or shot in the dark, but based upon prior engagement with this same activity from this same dealer, if I am reading all of this correctly.

Paying the *experts* a fun sum for his lessons, the buyer has some experience in recoloring to make a determination with coin in hand that the coin itself had been recolored. Some options the buyer had were to: send the coin to the said *experts* for a fun sum to determine whether his suspicions were correct; send the coin back to the seller and request his 90% refund; or send the coin back to the seller demanding a FULL refund, as the coin was misrepresented (in his opinion).

The buyer decided on the latest, as this was the most prompt and least costly to himself. The seller did himself note that human nature is to look after oneself first, and that is exactly what the buyer did. Yet, so did the seller! The seller turned on the other hand and claimed indemnity of 10% due to the contract.

The real question is, is the contract binding? The buyer claims a breach of contract based on misrepresentation. The seller claims binding of contract based on fulfillment of seller's responsibilities and stated rights in the contract. This is an issue that only a court or mediator can resolve with finality if the buyer and seller continue to disagree. And for less than $7, they would both probably be laughed out of litigation in either of those two cases.

Anything further that transpires is simply a matter of personal ethics and scruples. And obviously, the two parties differ on both. Again, just like grading, ethics are subjective. What may be right and proper to one person, may be heinous and unacceptable to another. Thus, the buyer came onto one (or all) of his internet communities to warn of his experience. Nothing wrong with that at all.

There will be those that agree with him, and those that disagree. It's this diversity that allows us to learn and grow. Then the seller creates an account to come on and give his side of the story. That's perfectly fine as well!

So now we have the good, the bad, and the ugly of the situation and can make our own decisions of how to deal with the buyer/seller on eBay in the future. If the seller really believes that he is right, and that the coin was perfectly fine, then blacklist the buyer from further purchasing/bidding his items and move on. The rest of us may or may not blacklist the seller irregardless and go on with life.

That's the easiest way to take care of problems. Just block them out and keep moving on. But, that's not necessarily the best way of taking care of the problem as there is no real resolution.

Even after all that has been done, I would suggest that the buyer and seller continue to see if there is a real problem here that can have a real resolution, and both learn and grow from it.

I post very rarely anywhere, and for this exact reason. You will rarely see me post with so few words. I just hate to see mob mentality brew when something very valuable could be taught and learned by both sides, given they're willing.

Sir, without quoting your whole book =) I agree with you, only to the point that I did send in the prior coins to find that they have been recolored. NGC is taking serious actions against coin doctors and they are the best in the buisness. I now know without a question in my mind that the coin in question has been recolored. I say why doesnt wmsjewelery send his coins into NGC before sells them or is it THAT HE KNOWS WHAT HE DOES IS WRONG. The other matter is that it is not 6 dollars like he stated but over $9 that I intend to get back. I filed a paypal claim tonight for the rest of my money that in my mind HE STOLE. Just like stealing from anywhere else IT IS WRONG.

Fair enough, and I did NOT know you were a seller on the bay, NP.

In my case, the 2 returns I have had I refunded both the shipping and item price. Shipping refunds are not required, but I want my buyers happy and willing to return.

As for the OP transaction, the seller feedback shows a long and continuing pattern of less than ethical behaviour, not just 1 transaction that was not satisfactory to 1 buyer.

For those that put profit above customer satisfaction, we can now agree, restock fees are a handy way to do that.

LOL, cool, I like your Lib dollar, bought one myself Friday at the coin shop just to have as a conversation piece, as I also collect political memoribelia.

Any coin dealer worth their salt knows a recolored coin when they see it. It is so easy to leave out, hoping for an extra buck or 2, but I find it better to disclose up front.

The bad thing is that he RELISTED this coin last night to prey on yet another innocent victim and possibly get paid 10% more if they return it.

Tdec1000 this is what I offer you. If you are so sure the the coin has been altered lets bet on it. I will pull the coin from ebay and send it to NGC and let them be the judge. If the coin comes back in a holder no matter what the grade is ( seeing as they will not holder a coin that has been altered ) you pay me the fees for slabbing the coin, shipping there and back, as well as $150.00. If the coin comes back as cleaned, recolored or altered I will go ahead and eat the cost of the certification and then pay you $150.00.

Just an offer but if you are so sure of it put some money where your big mouth is.

Let me know. I will be sending out a package in the next few days so I can add that coin to the group.

    Tdec....Usted tiene los huevos?

That sounds like a more than fair offer to me. If I had seen the coin in hand and felt confidant I'd do it in a minute.

WMS, I admire your conviction and defence of your position. I do not see that often...KUDOS to you !!!
