I have a 1911, but have been thinking it was sort of lackluster - although the condition is certainly OK. So I have been looking for something with more richness to the color. I found this on eBay. (Vendor photos.) It seemed to have promise but looked pretty dirty. The letters, in fact, almost looked coated or varnished. I took a shot at it anyway. I gave it a little swish in some xylene and this is what it looks like now. Both sides have their cartwheel luster.
Here is its mate...picked up a Dansco a while back and had no stand alone proofs and nome of the keys but looking at it again came across these 2. This has some toning starting so popped them out and gave them a quick acetone rinse to help stabilize and put them into direct fit airtites. This one is also interesting as it has die chips on the C, E, and T on the reverse.
Yes. The color goes well with my 04-O Morgan. I need a dime, nickel, quarter and half with similar colors now.
I like the slab photo better, shows the smooth and slightly reflective surfaces. I guess they thought it was MA.
Are you talking to me Amber? If so the obverse has what is called design devouring die wear. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=design+devouring+die+wear The reverse shows some indirect design transfer or ghosting. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=indirect+design+transfer
