Here is a recent purchase of mine, 1830 Capped Bust Half Dollar. I'm interested in opinions as to grade and attribution. After research over at the Coin Zip Bust Half page I believe it is a O-103, am I correct? I apologize in advance, these are not the best pictures, I am working on my photo skills. Thanks Mike
Mike, your attribution looks to be correct. Here are some ot the diagnistics to look for with this year/variety. Obverse: Star 1 points to upper half of dentil. Stars have round blunt points. “3” is low. Reverse: Upright of '5' is recut, showing at left. First 'A' in 'AMERICA' is recut showing at left. Die line from center arrowhead to dentils. First 'S' in 'STATES' is wide and high. 'C' in 'AMERICA' is low. Right sides of I and T are in line. Take Care Ben
First- very attractive coin! The photos do make it tough to grade, but it looks like XF40 to me. The ear looks great, but it looks a little weak on the brow and eagle feathers. That could be a trick of the lighting though. In any case, it is a very nice coin!
