My God, that desk looks suspiciously way too neat . I like the stand, how high does it extend? I could use it for slabs, or large medals. Currently I use an old photo copy stand for large objects along with back light etc. Awhile back I borrowed the design for a magic box which is self contained that is fantastic; if objects are too large I do some improv. Cheers
You caught me on the desk The stand is about 24” tall, and I can shoot from a full slab down to about the size of a dime. that’s of course dependent on the particular lens installed and my 1.3x crop camera.
In his opening post he has a photo showing the setup as being tethered. The monitor is showing the EOS Utility app with the item he is currently focusing on.
It is a long cable. The other end of the camera is hiding the camera's input. The middle cable at the bottom of the monitor is the other end of the Canon cable. The newer models also have wireless capabilities.
Those might work better than the plastic square coin tubes I'm using. It seems like the square edges are always catching on the lens.
Just Awesome! Why not use the "black tube and stick" method to mount the coin? I thought I saw someone use this black background that used a foam tube around their coin mounted on a black-painted dowel rod, in conjunction with a copystand and Jansjo lights.
Thanks, mlov. Ray sent me a piece of photo velvet, some seriously black stuff. I have yet to generate more shots with it, but his thought is that it should generate as black as that "black tube and stick" method you mention. I will see, but if it does it will be less cumbersome for sure.
