I found this $2 note in my fathers collection. As you can see there is a stamp and a postmark from Groton, CT on it. I asked my mother about it and why Groton (We lived in Niantic, CT at the time). It seems he got 4 notes from the local bank, one for each of us kids. He wanted to have them stamped and went to the local Post Office...they wouln't do it so he went to the next town. They refused. Then off to the next...NO. After 5 or 6 attempts he wound up in Groton where they agreed to stamp the notes for him. She said he came home very happy and put them away in their holders and she never saw them again till he passed away. I thought I would share it and the note with you all.
My father has one of those framed, I believe. I think it's a pretty cool piece of history. Thanks for sharing the story!
Cool piece of americana...The Boston Note was used for CT when normally NY serves all of CT from the FRB of NY..interesting. RickieB
That is interesting. She did say he went to the bank in town to get the notes. Now I have a little mystery attached to the note as well...cool!
