Came across one of this guy's listings: https://www.ebay.com/sch/silvercoins77/m.html All his listing titles are variations on "DISABLED VET SELLING VERY RARE/RAINBOW TONED SILVER DOLLAR". All the items are the worst, ugliest kind of artificial toning. I'm really sorry if this person served our country and is now disabled. But I'm even sorrier that his injuries have apparently left him without the use of his ethics.
Because one the toning just looks wrong, and two, well circulated coins do not have the lustrous surfaces to tone prettily. As a soon to be disabled combat vet, (meeting with VA in a couple of months on a couple of old war injuries), there is nothing about serving your country that gives you the right to swindle others. In fact, you should be less likely to do such behavior IMHO.
The worst in experience are the sellers from the Russian Federation who mysteriously have all these nice, key date coins for rock bottom prices. Suspicious, much?
Thanks for your service. We talk about stuff such as that in our monthly VVA meetings. It is nothing short of Stolen Valor.
Having served the construction field for 35 years, it has been a bit unnerving to me to see so many clients make a big issue of being veterans. Sadly, that status allows them an advantage on government projects. I too served our nation for eight years. You won’t find a word of it on my company’s website..... I very recently had to take a veteran owned business to court to get paid. My last document to him closed with how embarrassing it is for one honorable veteran to have to sue a dishonorable veteran just to be paid for his materials...... Man, that verbiage is such a turn off to me.
I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt (maybe he didn't know any better), but it looks like he's been doing the eBay thing for over 10 years and with 2 Neutrals and 4 Bad feedbacks (in what the last 12 months), I don't think that's probably the case. If he's truly a DAV, I hate to condemn him, but it in no way excuses the use of his Military status to scam others. It is hard for me to imagine that anyone who has served with distinction, especially if his injuries occurred in Combat, could or would stoop to such behavior . . . maybe he was a REMF and the pallet of Brew (intended for a Fire Base) he was trying to make off with fell on his legs!?! (Sorry, that's really petty of me, but way too many good men and women never got a chance to grow old, even if with a disability, for that kind of BS not to piss me off . . . better stop now before I really get wound up.) Thanks for everyone’s service from a grateful American! As far as this seller goes, I suspect he’s as much of a disabled veteran as I am Audie Murphy.
What a POS. Just read a listing saying he is selling coins for a veteran’s wife who is trouble with creditors.
I am really wondering, from a legal point of view, what could happen to someone calling out a seller on an open forum?
I have no reason to doubt that he's a disabled veteran. I also have no reason to doubt that the coins he's selling are artificially toned, whether he did it himself or not.
