Ok. Well, I did kind of anticipate a value increase. I do like the designs as well but it wasn't my first motivation.
Searching bags & rolls for high grades and submitting them for certification is the best way to make a profit on them. For uncirculated coins, grades of MS68 or MS69 will sell for a substantial premium. I used to do this all the time for Sac dollars, Kennedy half dollars and State Quarters, but dimes, nickels and pennies are too small and just give me headaches. Chris
True but cents are so plentiful! Besides, you don't get half the hassle from banks with cents that you do with say half dollars. A million varieties too.
Sorry! Let me clarify my point. Searching bags & rolls that you have bought from the US Mint for high grades and submitting them for certification is the best way to make a profit on them. Chris
Quick question... will all 2006 pennies have a wide AM? Is this a close AM, or am I blind? In your opinion, for a beginner, what is the best coin to pay attention to? Pennies seem to have the most variety of errors. I’m just starting, so it’s basically just going through my change everyday. I purposely break bills to get change back. I have no one guiding me or explaining the basics, and there’s so many different things on the internet that it kinda becomes overwhelming to me. Plus... like I said earlier, I take care of my grandmother so there’s not a lot of time to research when I’m constantly having to pour sugar in her mouth (severe diabetic. Drops to 30’s about 5x a day), or raise/lower her blood pressure (goes from 300/180’s [no lie!!] to 70/30’s all day long!), or putting nitro under her tongue (90% blockage in her heart), or all of the above. I have my hands full!!!!! So... if you have any advice for beginners, or know of a good link that will lay it out for me, please post it for me. It will be greatly appreciated!!!
I realize that some people are not in a financial position to pay even the slightest premium for coins directly from the Mint, but searching circulated coins for errors and varieties has never been my thing. Yes, I routinely searched two boxes of half dollars ($1K) every week for silver, but I didn't waste my time looking for anything other than silver. Keep in mind that this was long before silver skyrocketed to nearly $50/oz., and I sold it all when it dropped to $45. Chris
I suggest you dabble with a little of everything you can get your hands on and eventually you find a series you cannot put down.
